"donghyuck?"

the tanned male stopped midway from doing further his action when he heard a feminine voice behind him. he turned around, looking at the shocked woman with her palm covered her agape mouth as her eyes fixed at the knife in donghyuck's grip.

"mom?"

she dashed forward him, seeing that he lowered the knife with a trembling hand. she quickly snatched the item and threw it to the counter next to her.

she pulled her son in a tight embrace as she saw how puffy and red his eyes were, cheeks were stained with tears, "dear lord, what happened to you?"

"i-i messed up," donghyuck sobbed quietly against his mother's shoulder, wetting the silk pajamas that she wore for the night.

"shh.. i'm here hyuckie.." she comforted him as she stroke his back gently, rocking their body lightly to calm down her son.

it was currently 5 in the morning but the sleepiness was washed away and neither of them needed it at the moment. mrs. lee was worried about her son that hadn't spoken yet about what had happened to him that made him looked this miserable.

she eyed donghyuck that sat silently on the couch of the living room. the water that she poured in the glass for him hadn't been touched yet as it was still placed on the table in front of them.

"sorry for not informing you that i came back yesterday," she started off.

donghyuck stared blankly at whatever objects that he laid his eyes on. he heard what his mother was saying but that wasn't really important to him at the moment. his mind was still occupied by other things.

first of all, he was feeling stupid for wanting to commit suicide because of one man. second, if he died, who would take care of his mother when he was all that she got now. nevertheless, he was thankful that god was there to save him from doing a dumb thing by sending his mother to stop him. it made him realized that after all this time, all he needed was his mother. his mother was always there for him.

"donghyuck.. can you tell mom what had happened?" she asked softly, caressing her thumb against donghyuck's hand that cut his train of thoughts.

donghyuck gulped down the feeling that made him nauseous as his eyes started to well up with the never ending tears, "i.. i just got rejected.. i love him with all my heart but.. what did i get in return?" he chuckled sadly, "nothing but this broken heart."

mrs. lee sighed. loving someone could be painful sometimes. we needed to sacrifice ourselves to meet their expectations. we could be foolish just to prove that we were capable to do things to satisfy them. love is dangerous that it could kill. just like what she had witnessed her son, planning to stab himself a while ago.

"you deserve the whole world donghyuck. he's just missing out from you to notice what a good person you are," she reassured, placing donghyuck's head on her shoulder.

"but i love him mom.." donghyuck sniffled and bit his quivering lip.

she rubbed her son's arm, knowing that he cried even though she couldn't see his face at the position they were in, "there's plenty of fish in the sea son."
