I snap myself out of the moment and notice a lot of the class near the front doors. It'd be best to regroup.
Turning to Ojiro, I'm about to mention it when notes rise swiftly and his jaw drops in surprise just seconds before a loud crash. I spin around to see the thing All Might was fighting is gone, smoke surrounding the hero.
"What the hell...?!"
Ojiro's voice is faint.
"He punched it through the roof..."
The hero seems to be having a standoff with whoever remains. The ominous music is louder now, more pronounced.
It's gotta be one of the villains' themes.
Glancing back to Ojiro, I gesture to the front. "We should probably get over to the rest of the class."
"Uh- yeah, definitely."
We start to skirt around the edge of the fight when the music suddenly gets intense and I grab Ojiro, dragging us behind some debris to hide.
My classmate stifles a quiet yelp and I peek over to see the villains go in for an attack on All Might. My heart drops when Midoriya takes off after them.
What does he think he's playing at?
A louder melody takes over out of nowhere. Strong, enlightening notes fly through the air and I let out a soft breath; relief crashing over me.
Glancing back to the entrance, I spot all the teachers along with Iida. The pro hero, Snipe, shoots at the villains near All Might several times before they retreat the same way they came. I tug my classmate along and we head up to the entrance.
Despite the near death experience, I still feel a bright excitement at the sight of Present Mic. With the danger now gone, the melody I associate with the voice hero dances freely above all the others.
But there's an undertone of something else. Something difficult for me to interpret. Before I can think on it too hard, we're ushered outside with the rest of the class.
Once everyone's accounted for, we're dismissed to go back to the school. A tense note chimes before Asui raises her hand and addresses the detective who just spoke.
"How is Aizawa sensei...?"
There's a tense pause.
"His arms are riddled with comminuted fractures, and he's suffering from facial fractures as well... Thankfully, out of sheer luck he didn't receive any brain damage." The detective looks uncomfortable before he continues.
"It's just... Well, the bones around his eye socket area, his 'orbital floor', has been crushed into a powder. There's a chance it might affect his eyesight. Or so I've been told..." He gestures with his phone.
A somber, concerned melody fills the air, thick and heavy. I let out a hushed breath and shove my hands in my pockets before I can fidget with my drumsticks.
The detective continues and informs us that both No. 13 and All Might are in stable condition. After the gravity girl's concerned questioning, Midoriya is said to be well enough for the school infirmary rather than the hospital.
We're ushered back to the bus and I can't find it in myself to talk to anyone so I tug on my headphones. Only hearing the mood of the bus almost makes it worse but I suppose it's better than complete silence.
Eventually, we're sent home. Jace is waiting for me when I get back and I'm swept into a hug before I can even say anything. His typical theme is tense, high strung. It rings through the room.
He simply holds me, reassuring himself that I am there; I am safe. I relax into his embrace. His voice is tight with concern when he finally speaks.
"I wasn't expecting to be this worried so soon... I thought I'd at least have until you got your license."
That gets a snort from me and soon we're both laughing. The melody lightens. He pulls back with a much more relaxed expression on his features.
"I'm happy you're okay, kid."
"Yeah..."
School is temporarily cancelled the next day. Jace gets time off work and we spend the day together, not doing anything particular. Just existing.
I try not to think about what happened. It's hard to make complete sense of it all but the thoughts are crushing me slowly.
We could have died.
They wanted to kill us.I find myself surprisingly worried about Aizawa sensei. We had only known him for a few days but he risked his life for us. It's in his job description but still. Not to mention, his eyes are the basis of his quirk.
If he loses his eyesight...
I brush away that thought.
When we finally go back to school, I keep my headphones on. I don't really want to talk to anyone just yet. I'm bothered to find I'm still processing it somewhat. Jace's words come to mind and I find myself in agreement.
I wasn't expecting danger so soon.
Reaching the classroom, I make a beeline for my seat and leave on my headphones for now. The music is a mix of various themes but it's all still a little tense. I notice Iida at the front of the class, his voice muffled.
Suddenly, a familiar melody joins in and I'm confused. The door opens and Aizawa sensei steps into the room, completely covered in bandages. I tug off my headphones just in time to catch his stiff greeting.
"Morning."
The class is in immediate uproar, questioning his health and his presence. He's quick to put an end it.
"Do not concern yourselves over me. After all, the battle hasn't really ended for all of you."
The tension in the room skyrockets and uneasy notes reflect it. I tap my desk nervously as people voice what's going through everyone's thoughts.
"The battle?"
"You don't mean..."
"More villains?!?"
The teacher peeks through the bandages around his face ominously. All eyes are on him as his next words echo through the room.
"Yuuei's Sports Festival is coming up."
The relief in the room is visible on everyone's face. A quiet sigh escapes me as the melodies even out.
He really didn't need to put that much tension in that, did he?
