City Nights

The city robbed me of my starry nights
and star gazing days
I look up at the sky and only polluted clouds greet my eyes
And the only time I ever thank those dark, heavy clouds
Are when I'm promised a thunderstorm that'll drown out the traffic—
Drown out the sirens of the edgy cops and racing ambulances
Maybe I'm just tired of the city and I just want to count the stars...
And I always seem to get enchanted when the rain drops make my world quieter
So I'm just going to smell in the cigarettes that ruined my night
And instead look up and see if I can still see the moon.
