Elena's POV:

I stared at Adrian with my mouth dropped open.

"I...I don't know how to say it. You've caught me off guard," I stuttered.

Adrian smiled and grasped my shoulder.

"Calm down and take a deep breath. I know I shouldn't have asked you out of the blue,"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to ease my fanatically beating heart.

"Look, you're a great guy. You're attractive and you've insanely captivating personality but..."

"But?" He tilted his head to the side asking me with an amused smile on his face.

"But, I'm in love with, Jake," I choked out.

I looked down at my feet in embarrassment, remembering how I just told him a few minutes ago that I broke up with my boyfriend.

"Well, I was expecting to hear that," Adrian said with a playful smile on his face.

My eyes darted up to look at the smile plastered on his face.

"What?" I asked him in confusion.

"Do you know why I asked you out?"

"Um... cuz you like me," I said with a shrug.

"I like you a lot but as a friend,"

His answer only increased my confusion.

"Then why did you put me through this distress? I wanted to reject you without hurting you. Do you know how much anxiety it gave me?"

Adrian laughed loudly, watching me glare at him with my hands on my hips.

"I did that to make you realize that you are running from the man that you are still in love with," He said.

Adrian words pierced through my heart.

"You tricked me into confessing my love for my ex-boyfriend?" I asked him confused.

"He isn't ex until you move on from him," Adrian said his wise words.

"I'm trying to move on," I said rolling my eyes.

"You're certainly not doing it right," He said with a careless shrug.

"What if I had said yes to the date?" I asked him.

"Then I'd have loved to go on a date with you," He replied.

"But you just said you like me as a friend," I snapped.

"Where does it say friends can't date?" He asked me.

I just stared at him in exasperation.

"Nowhere, it says that friends can't date," I confessed.

"Do you know how confusing you are?" I asked Adrian.

"We are not talking about me; we are talking about you," He said grabbing my shoulders.

"Me? What is there to talk about me?" I asked him.

"Don't waste your time," He said.

"Excuse me?"

"Don't waste your time by escaping from the truth. Look at Brandon, he wasted six years of his life to get the woman he fell in love because he was foolish to grasp the control of his feelings at the right time. Why do you want to make the same mistake? Life is too short to waste on overthinking." He said.

I stared at him in surprise. I never thought that out of the entire world, Adrian would be the one to give me advice on my relationship.

"You don't always get a second chance, Elena. No one knows it better than me,"
