The Devil of Hope
For a few years after the assassination of First Minister John Tully and the Chief of the Hunters, there grew many conspiracy groups, private forums, hidden meetings and drug fuelled raves in the name of the killer. We know him by a few personae; Number 7, Zero, Custos. They knew him as; Diabolus.
Some of these supporters were religious and supported the killer despite the inherent contradictions in supporting a killer known as a devil. They reasoned that one person's devil is another person's guardian angel. This was the devil of the corrupt, of the oppressor, of the overbearing government of Spero. This was a devil who defended the masses, it was a devil for the small people, it was a devil of hope in a time where the God had been the fat face of racism, xenophobia, sexism, fear and hatred.
In those times, the masses grew confident and brave and on private forums, for those that knew how to find them, there were requests:

A return to the present
The truth about the Devil is that he is the ultimate punisher and this is what people saw in Custos. The other truth about the Devil is that he is the ultimate manipulator and some believe that he inspires the very worst in people, the people did not see that.
When First Minister Tully disappeared and the world came to order with First Minister Ulrika Larsson, there was a culling of hordes of people who had grown the confidence to speak out. It was in this way that the people's spirit was again broken.
Now groups of people known to be linked to this Devil, on forums, from private raves and from secret meetings even, were collected and interviewed by Dr. Mathis.
"Let this land burn, let them kill each other, eat each other, destroy each other, tear each other limb from limb. All of those who let this happen, the masses who stood by and watched. Let all of those who saw this weed take root and let it grow, die. Let it all crumble and become ash." Thought Custos. He was standing over the city, watching down on it. If the city destroyed itself, then perhaps he could forget about the devil inside of him.
