HAZEL

I would've fallen to my feet if it wasn't for Seraphine's firm hands that steady me. I reach out blindly in front of me, my vision disorientated and blurry.

"Hey hey, just sit down for a second. Take a few deep breaths."

She helps me kneel down into a crouch, and I eventually slump onto my backside. I try and listen to the advice, doing my best to inhale and exhale as best as I can despite the rising bile in my throat. I groan, leaning forwards with my head in my hands.

"What the fuck just happened?"

The sound of Ivy's cursing causes me to frantically look up, my eyes searching for my friends. I blink rapidly, wanting my vision to return to its normal state.

Where even are we?

I can feel that the ground is hard, and some exploring with my fingers told me that I was in the midst of rock and dust. There are glowing lights of orange above me, and I can just about make out the grey figures of Navir and Seraphine hovering over us. I blink again, this time my vision thankfully beginning to clear. I look around in confusion, suddenly shocked at our surroundings.

"Where are we?" I breathe out, slowly rising to my feet.

It's clear that we're no longer in Stonehenge. I no longer feel the chilly wind on my face or see the rising sun among the huge stone monuments. There is no grass beneath our feet, nor any sign of there being an outside world.

We're completely surrounded by rock. I slowly spin around, my mouth open in pure shock. Are we in some sort of cave? There are torches hung up on the sides, the fire allowing light and casting our shadows against the walls of rock. Before my sense of claustrophobia kicks in, I realise that a tunnel lies a few steps ahead of us, its entrance lit up by more torches.

"It's like some medieval underground..." I hear Fern speak softly behind me.

I turn and see her gazing at our surroundings in disbelief. She drags her hand over one of the many cracks in the walls, her face wearing a look of complete amazement. Ivy is leaning against the wall, taking deep breaths before straightening up to gasp at how we've managed to end up in a completely different location.

"Fuck."

I would laugh at her use of language if it were not for feeling faint and the high chances of emptying my stomach. Seeing my slight wobble, Seraphine rushes to my aid. I flinch at her touch, remembering how those very same hands killed a man with such ease and brutality. She pulls away, a flash of hurt appearing on her face. I look away, feeling guilty but also relieved at the space she puts between us.

Navir dusts off his tunic before glancing at the tunnel. Eyeing our shocked and still slightly disorientated states, he clears his throat, the look of impatience returning to his features.

"We're nearly there. Now before any questions are asked-"

"Screw that. What the hell just happened? Where are we?" Ivy demands with a biting tone.

Navir shakes his head and sighs.

"What's just happened is that we've used a gateway to enter our world. It feels unpleasant the first few times, but you'll get used to it. As for where we are, well, we're underground."

We all stare wide eyed at his casual tone.

Gateway? Underground?

"Wait, what do you mean? That shouldn't be possible." Fern stutters out.

The male Guardians sighs, an overly occurring trait that begins to irk me.

"Think of it like a portal. I believe that's the term that's commonly used."
