what exactly are vampire loads? it's essentially the power being consumed by electrical appliances when they are turned off but still plugged in. it's another small thing that can make a big difference if everyone pitches in. when you aren't using your appliances, don't just turn them off, unplug them. it's that easy.

vampire loads are often unnoticed, but can actually make up 20% of your electricity use each month. even when the appliances are off, they're still working to some extent. for instance, a tv that is turned off is still waiting to receive a signal from the remote. so when you aren't using a desktop computer, tv, printer, video game console, air conditioning unit, or electric toothbrush, simply unplug it. the national american resource defense council calculates that $19 billion is wasted in vampire loads each year. think about all the things that money could be used for!

so long story short, unplug things while you aren't using them.
