It was dark, so dark for so very long

I feel so tired, so very tired

I had nearly given up hope, that is until

I saw that one, small spark.

That sole spark that brought some sort of joy in my life.

The first one that appeared before me

Had me frozen in shock.

After being in the dark for so long

I had nearly forgotten this feeling,

This warmth that flows through me.

I pray that it will last forever.

Taking this small light within my arms

I then brought it home with me.

I did my best to nourish and help them grow

In return, the darkness that settled over me started to fade.

Little did I know that this was only the beginning,

Within a few years time, I saw the next spark of light.

Doing my best to raise them in my dwelling.

They are the light of my world, and I will do everything,

Everything that I can in order to protect them.

Of this I swear upon those white irises

That bring beauty and represent purity.

My greatest joy was to spend my time with them,

To see their smiles, to hear their laughter

To feel the warmth once more, without the biting cold.

This... This is the greatest reward,

To spend and cherish each and every moment with them.

For my time now draws near...
