The world seemed to be crashing around her as she stood behind the gathered mass of mourners. An argument filled the throne room as the civilians dispersed, leaving only the leaders of the Alliance, save for Greymane, and their champion.
"We need the Horde to stand any chance against the Legion. We cannot afford a war on two fronts." Velen was arguing with Jaina Proudmoore. Jaina was boiling with bloodlust after the battle on the Broken Shore that had cost the Alliance their king.
"They are responsible for this, they must answer for abandoning the battle! Never again shall any Horde step foot into my city."
"I agree with Velen, Jaina. We cannot hope to defeat the demons without the Hordes help." Anduin looked to the champion for her opinion. "Milladras, what say you on this?" The tall Night Elf was deep in thought, memories of the past few hours playing over and over again.
She could see the look in Varian's eyes when he made the decision that would end his life. The fel reaver let out another mechanical cry as it pulled the warship down.
"Varian don't do this." She pleaded as he pulled a scroll from his armor and placed it in Genn's outstretched hand. "Please just take his hand!" She screamed at him, tears filling her eyes. He locked eyes with her, silently saying his goodbye to her. He looked back at Genn.
"Give this to my son." Varian let go of him and turned and flung himself at the massive demon. Milladras lunged, arms starting to cover in dark violet feathers as she willed herself into her bird form. Genn grabbed her and tried to keep her from following their king to their death.
"Millie you can't! Azeroth can't lose you too." He struggled to hold her changing body in his arms, motioning for one of the soldiers to knock her out.
She woke up on the airship with a pounding headache. If she ever figured out which footman knocked her out she'd send her treants after them.
"Glad to see you up, commander." Genn helped her stand. Once standing she could see they were back in Stormwind. Genn's eyes were filled with several emotions, most prominent being grief and rage. Milladras matched his gaze but refrained from berating him for stopping her attempt to help Varian. "Take this to Anduin." He handed her the letter Varian had written. She knew better than to press him about going himself and silently transformed and flew off towards the castle.
"Milladras?" Anduin stood and placed his hand on her arm, bringing her from her memories. "Millie are you alright?" It was a stupid question to ask but he didn't know what else to say. She cleared her mind, swallowed her emotions, and blinked away the ghost tears.
"Velen is right. Despite what happened today, we need the Hordes numbers if we want to push back the Legion. We barely made it with their help today, imagine if they hadn't have been there." She tried her best to fight the anger she and Genn shared towards Sylvanas but she knew they needed all the help they could get. Anduin let out a small sigh of relief that she had agreed.
"Then we will work together." He took his place in front of his throne once more, motioning for the Illidari to step forward who had just arrived. Jaina stormed away in anger as the Demon Hunters fanned out in front of the rest gathered. The world must be on the verge of collapse if the Illidari had been released from their prison.
"Your Majesty, might I speak with you?" The head Illidari stepped forward towards Anduin but Milladras stepped in between them.
"Surely you could share your news with me."
"If I must. Jace Darkweaver, if you cared to know." He leaned in closer. "The enemy is already among you." Jace glanced around the room.
"Show me." He did as the Druid asked, crossing the room to a normal guard. He spoke to the guard and all of a sudden the room filled with fel demons.
"Protect the king!" Milladras called to the Alliance leaders before launching spell after spell at every demon and portal in her way. She allowed her anger to bubble up again, rageful tear pricking her eyes as she blasted away the Legion. Her emotions were starting to consume her as she hadn't the time to grieve and as the last demon fell she left the castle, transforming into her flight form and heading to the only place she could think of. The waterfall outside of town was her safe place but today it only reminded her of the weight of Varian's loss as her memories played out the most painful moments they shared.
Astral energy surged around the Druid as she let her emotions free. Star-like energy pelted the ground like rain and the air around her glowed as her astral form broke loose with all the power coursing through her veins. She knew she couldn't afford the luxury of time but by Elune she was going to allow herself this little moment. As her tears slowed, so did the stellar rain until Milladras just stared at the ground currently under her fists. She could sense someone approaching but still she remained unmoved.
"I hate to see you like this." A voice reached her ears that she hadn't heard in thousands of years, but it sounded off, perhaps void of emotion. "Crying over him won't bring him back, but perhaps we can avenge him." The female knelt beside Milladras, gently brushing her hair from her face. Milladras' eyes widened as they met with burning green.
"A'veeana?"
