Peter's Point of View

After school, I walked with Caroline. She was really quiet most of the time.

"So... I don't think I got a last name." I prompted.

"Rogers." she replied.

As we continued on there was a lot of silence. We talked about our classes, but like I said, it was mostly silence. We finally reached her house, but she asked me to wait a few seconds before I walked in front of her house, instead of with her, so her dad wouldn't question her. Apparently her dad was pretty strict. Especially when it came to her and boys. When I finally got home, dad wasn't there, as usual, so I just watched tv and tinkered with some inventions I had been trying to build.

After a few minutes, I heard the front door slam shut.

"Don't slam the door, Lizzie." I told my sister as she walked past me, on her way to the kitchen.

"My day was just fine, thank you very much." Lizzie smarted off.

"I didn't ask you how your day was. I told you not to slam the door." I quipped.

"Whatever." she replied

Time flew by and soon it was 10:00 at night. Mom had already come home and gotten Lizzie in bed, and then went to bed, herself. I was still up. I was about to put my inventions away and go to bed, when I heard the front door open and a voice.

"I'm home!" Dad said making his usual 'grand entrance' , as he called it.

"Hey Dad! You might want to be quiet though, everyone else is asleep." I said as dad closed the door. He walked over to me to see what I was working on.

"What's that?"

"A robot." I said as I continued working.

"You put that gear in the wrong place." he said, fixing my mistake, "It should go right there." I just sat there with my arms crossed as he fixed it. I didn't like to be corrected, and Dad wasn't the best at not correcting people. He made me feel small. And I didn't like it.

"So... anything special happen at school today?" he asked.

"I made a friend." I replied. I never told him about how I was popular, or even that I had friend at all. He had never asked.

"What's his name?"

"It's not a he." I rebuked.

"Oh. So you've got a girlfriend?"

"No!" I said. I felt my face turn bright red.

"Well then, what is your girlfriend's name?" he egged on.

"Her name is Caroline, and she's not my girlfriend." I replied.

"Does she have a last name?"

"Rogers." I answered. Dad's eyes grew wide with concern.

"It couldn't be..." I heard him mumble as he pulled his phone out, "Could it?"

No point of view

The next day Peter and Caroline met each other, so they could walk to school together.

"Hey Peter!" Caroline smiled, as they started toward school.

"Hey!" Peter replied. "Um...Caroline I need to tell you something." The smile that had been on his face disappeared.

"Yeah?" Caroline acknowledged.

"I was talking to my dad last night, and when I mentioned your name, he started acting worried." Peter started.

"That's weird." Caroline said, confused.

"But, he didn't start acting that way until I said your last name. After that he started calling someone." Caroline's eyes widened when Peter said that.

"My Dad got a call from someone last night." Caroline started, "It was really late. I got up to get some water, when I overheard Dad talking to someone. Then this morning, he started asking me if I had made any friends. I said 'No', but then he said 'Really? Are you sure?', but I just said 'Yes sir.' " Caroline's expression turned serious, "You don't think they were..." Caroline trailed off in thought.
