"Watch out"
I push Fioré to the ground as the dead hover over her,
She drops as I drill the tire iron in the back of its head.
The crunching noise swirls around in my ears until
The growler plummets to the ground,
knees first followed by a face plant into the earths surface.

"Good looking out"
She thanks me.
I wipe the splattered, rotten blood off my forehead

Fioré// main character POV

It's been a couple hours since we found lux's life swept away by this virus,
We encounter a couple dead sitting by his side but I can't fathom killing someone,
Even if they want to kill me.

"Don't you have family?"
Roderick sincerely asks me,
giving me complete eye contact.

I look away,
that type of eye contact has never been my strong suit.
Twirling my thumbs around
I give a faint "no"
"You?"
Now looking into his eyes,
trying to take the questions weight off my shoulders.

"Just my dad. But he's on a business trip"
He sighs,
Staring off into the distance as the sun begins to set against the dirty lake.
The smoke that once flowed out of lux's car hood has stopped,
yet he still lay moaning for our flesh.

"We should get going, we need to figure out what exactly is happening"
He pushes himself to standing position,
Wiping his now grassy pants off,
reaching his hand out in my direction.

I let a deep breath go as I take his hand
Peering into the car window at Lux,
who's eyes follow our every step.

"We'll come back, I promise"
Roderick reassures me,
Holding me as we walk up the sloped hill back to his car.

On the bridge things were silent, not even dead wandered.
No sirens, no screams, no nothing.
My stomach felt uneasy as lux creeped back into mind,
I take one last look at his wrecked car
before we venture off to Roderick's vehicle across the bridge.
//
In the car I connect to 4G service,
Dialing 911 as quickly as my fingers could process.
The line rang busy.
Coming closer into town the streets were packed and blocked off;
People running every which way while being chased by the dead.
Tiny fires had started and spread across the towns layout.

"My house"
I insist,
Pointing to dander St.
The street entrance is vacant but people running continued down it as well as the tiny fires.

"Help"
A girl screams waving her arms back and forth  to gain our attention at the side of the road.

"I-is that Ashley?"
Roderick chucks out,  pointing at the figure.
"I think it is"

He stops the car immediately causing  his rusted break pads to squeal and shake.
Ashley yanks  the door open allowing all the breath she stored in her body out as she places herself in the back seat.

Roderick starts to take off,
Inching down the road steadily passing running figures and papers blowing in the wind.

"Thank you guys"
She peeps from the back
"But I'm sorry"

Roderick and I's eyes immediately connect before realizing Ashley is holding us at gun point from the back seat
"I need to survive, I need this car"
