At every passing moment of Eli's life, her reality broadened. At the same rate, the bubble of freedom she can interact with seemingly shrunk. The same goes for everyone, the only difference is how one perceives the ever so changing world.
At a young age she moved to the other side of the world. At the time it was an exciting adventure. A new place to explore, new people to meet and most importantly a new language to learn. It's easy to take a child out into an unfamiliar environment. The bond they have is still raw. As long as they have their parents' warmth and food to eat, they're ready to tackle the world.
If you ask Eli if she could do the same today, she'd vigorously shake her head to disagree. She's safe, comfortable and everything that she loved was within arms' reach. Why would she wander off to risk everything she had. That was illogical.
Tonight at age thirteen, she promised herself that she will decide everything based on logical decisions and beneficial outcomes. It's the best way to live
It was a promise that didn't last very long.
