"What? But... Why? Why do you have to leave?" Karen inquired as her brother opened the window to leave.
"Listen. This is for the best. They never cared from the beginning, so I'm leaving this place. You should too. If we meet in the future, I'll try my best to remember you. I will try to write letters to you. For now, this is just a see you later." Barley replied, climbing out of the window and onto the roof of their porch which was angled towards the street.
"I... Alright... I'll miss you. I hope you'll be safe. In case you need something, keep writing to me. I hope you're gonna be alright on your own. It-"
"I won't be alone. I'm staying with my friends. Trust me when I say that we'll be safe. They're leaving too. See you later, Karen." Barley interrupted
"See you someday..." Karen whispered as she watched her brother slide down the roof and run down the street. Her brother was now considered an official runaway. Little did she know that since her brother was gone, she was defenseless and she too would run away from her family leaving behind something that would haunt her parents to the grave and give her siblings the chance to leave.
