U.S.A. vs U.S.S.R. 

the space race never ended.

after apollo, nasa kept going with their full program; the ussr kept going with their program too.  moonbases, space stations, shuttle, mars, etc. 

the ussr & east block never collapsed

space colonisation

booming space economy

2001 looks a lot more like the movie

by the mid 21st century, both superpowers, (& china, europe, & other powers) are fully in space. all over the solar system.   commercial, scientific,military.  

battlefleets, etc.

 cold war or hot war?   (post-nuclear?) (what treaties agreements etc....? UN?)  

space battles, with real physics!  sketch out tech & tactics-/-strategy; ships & fleets on fast flypast intercept orbits, high-velocity, etc., ways of hiding, sneaking up, etc.  big & small ships, weapons, beam ray projectile, etc. electronics counter warefare, hacking -s, etc. ?  

cold war budgets what if they'd spent more on spce programs?  moon, mars etc....?  

16 psyche & other metallic (m-class?)? asteroids, & other rich/good target s etc....  ? ?  

- canyon mars, - venus plateau? 

the outpost...? (see extra-solar planet/exploration story ideas) (extra-solar objects, etc....?)  

- tactics & strategy for real-physics space battles, fleets, etc....?
