The Very Begining

Chavez's POV:
Sometimes I think we're cursed because of something that happened before either of us were born see a long time there was this family the father he was a musician he and his family would sing and dance and count their blessings but he also had a dream to play for the world and one day.... he left with his guitar and never returned and the mother she didn't have time to cry over the walk away musician after banishing music from her life she found a way to provide for her daughter she rolled up her sleeves and she learned to make shoes she could've made candy or fireworks or underwear for wrestlers but no she chose shoes then she taught her daughter to make shoes and later she taught her son in law then her grandkids got roped into it as her family grew so did the business music had torn her family apart but shoes held them all together you see that woman was my great great grandmother mama Imelda she died way before either of us were born but our family still tells her story every year on Da De Los Muertos the day of the day and her little girl she's my great Grandmother mama CoCo but I call her grandma I was raised on an Indian reservation so I didn't know really a lot of Mexican traditions even though I'm part Mexican myself you're probably wondering who's talking well it's me Chavez yes that Chavez the one who rode with Billy The Kid and his gang of Regulators during the Lincoln County War in Lincoln County New Mexico which is a few states above Mexico which where I'm living at now I'm visiting some relatives of my father's side of the family my father Roberto was well known well respected veteran he was greatest man who ever lived I wouldn't know however because he died when I was a little kid I was only three when he died my mother was born and raised on an Indian reservation but when she married my father they left the reservation then my father died and so my mother decided to raise me on her own she went back to the reservation and that's where we remained until that fateful winter day when Murphy and his men and the United States Army killed everyone that I loved I was the only one who survived I was going to take revenge on Murphy but a man by the name of John Tunstall stopped me from doing so he taught me a better way to bury Murphy without hurting anybody but then it happened again when Murphy and his men shot and killed him and there was a whole war on it and everything else in between so after the incident at Stinky Springs New Mexico I decided to escape to Mexico I remember my mother telling me that if anything ever happened to her or anything run to Mexico to my father's side of the family the Riveras I was another grandson to Abuelita my father was her other son he and Abuelita's other son are brothers so he and his wife would be my aunt and uncle and mama Imelda was my great great grandmother so was her daughter but I always called her Grandma

Hola Mama CoCo a young boy in front of me said that young boy was Miguel Rivera he's twelve years old he and I are very close to each other he's my cousin

Hi grandma I said

How are you Julio Grandma said

Uh actually it was just me and Miguel Grandma has trouble remembering sometimes but it's good to talk to her anyway so we pretty much tell everything well at least Miguel dose

I used to run like this but now run like this it's way faster Miguel said showing off as usual I always laughed when he show off like the time he let grandma win in a wrestling match Miguel's a good kid ornery sometimes but I love like he's my little brother we always did everything together we even ate at the some dinner table together I was eating my dinner as Miguel was talking to grandma

I have a dimple on this side but not on this side dimple no dimple dimple Miguel said
