I had somewhere to be straight after this ended.
Dropping my ID sometime during it and not being able to find it wasn't part of the plan, nor did it help.
I was starting to panic. I couldn't afford to be late.
You picked up my card but didn't give it to me. You sent someone else instead.
Your eyes lingered on the situation for far too long to just be a coincidence. No, you were watching with a purpose; more purpose than usual, anyway.
I didn't know what you were thinking. I'm not even sure you knew what you were thinking, but you stood not too far away and watched it happen.
I bet you wanted to kick yourself when you watched smile at the stranger and thank him graciously.
When he left, I looked over and smirked. And then I left.
