Science fiction is often describe, and even defined, as extrapolative. The science fiction writers are supposed to take a trend or phenomenon of the here and now, purify and intensify it for dramatic effect, and extend it into the future. Science fiction isn't all about predicting things, it always deals how you describe things that is so unusual or didn't exist on reality. A science fiction writer tells us lies not an extraordinary magnificent story.
