After a long mission and a tiring week, they were finally back home. Remus was staying in the living room while Tonks was upstairs sleeping.

It was a cold winter, and the wind was blowing hard. Remus' attention was distracted by some snowflakes that were slowly dancing in the dark. He went in front of the window and looked outside.

While Remus was admiring the view, he heard something. At first, he didn't care; he thought it was only in his mind. But he was wrong. Remus went upstairs to find the source of the noises. He didn't want to wake up Tonks, but as he entered the bedroom, he realized that she was crying.

"Tonks? Tonks, wha- ?"
But Tonks continued to cry.
"Tonks! Tonks, wake up! It's me, Remus!" He shook her shoulder. "It's just a nightmare. It's not real!"

After a while, Tonks opened her eyes. When she saw Remus standing near her, she threw her arms around his neck and started to cry again. He pulled her into a hug.

"Dora, it's ok... It's ok... I am here. Everything is fine!" Remus whispered. "Relax, Dora, I'm here with you..." he continued, kissing her left cheek. "What happened? Did you have a nightmare?"

Still sobbing, she slightly moved away. Remus wiped away her tears.
"What did you dream?" he asked quietly.
"I- I dreamed other people dying again, Remus, some of my friends, but this time you were there too and the Death Eaters were torturing you, you were bleeding and screaming and I- I couldn't do anything! The Death Eaters were laughi-"

She tried to hold her tears but she couldn't, so she buried her face in his sweater.
"This is getting ridiculous!" she said, nervous. "I'm just stupid-"
"No, no, no, don't say that!" Remus interrupted her softly, rubbing her back while hugging her. "Don't worry about me. Those Death Eaters will never get the chance to torture me."
"How can you be so sure?" Tonks asked, worried.
"Dora, they will never get me. I won't let that happen. After all the things they've done, after all they did to us, they won't escape unpunished. The good always wins!"

A lone tear trickled down her cheek.

"You know... " he started, resting his forehead on her own, "I used to have a lot of bad dreams." Memories were invading his mind. "Back then, the Order was weak, and Voldemort was having more and more victims. My friends were dead, and I thought... I thought it was my fault... I thought I hadn't done enough to save them. I was mad and I couldn't sleep. It was a sad reality, but the nightmares I used to have made it worse."

He squeezed her small hands.
"You are not stupid. I know exactly how it feels, believe me, Dora, and I want to help you feel better."
"Thank you..." Tonks said, looking at him.
"I just want to see you happy, my dear." Remus pushed a small lock of hair behind her ear. His eyes suddenly brightened up. "You are the only thing that matters to me!"

Remus cupped her jaw in his palm and kissed her gently. Her lips were soft as petals. After a short moment that felt like an eternity, they pulled apart.

"I love you..." he mumbled, staring deeply into her eyes.
"I love you too!" she whispered.
"And now, you should get some sleep, even if it's just a nap. This time I'll stay with you. I want to be sure you're safe and rest well."

Remus lay down on the bed, and Tonks put her head on his chest. He covered her with the blanket. His jumper was comfortable as a pillow. Weary, she closed her eyes. Feeling the warmth of her small body, Remus hugged her tightly to his chest and hummed a song.

"Good night, Dora!" Remus whispered softly when he saw Tonks smiling in her sleep.
