"So you finally picked up the phone, huh?"
"..."
"How can you do this to me? It's been two days, Ella, two days. I've been calling you non-stop. Now you finally pick up and you're not even going to talk."
"I..."
"Please, El, talk to me."
"I don't think you've earned the right to use that nickname yet."
"Well, you don't have the right to hang up on me after telling me who you are and then not picking up any of my calls. You know that's not fair, Ella."
"I know it wasn't fair. I don't know, Finn. I got scared."
"Why would you be scared?"
"I was scared that you would hang up on me, so I did before you could. I had no idea how you were going to react and I was scared that it would lead us back to not talking again. I can't do that again, Finn. I can't stop talking to you."
"I don't know what to say."
"God, I missed you so much. And maybe it was stupid to call you in the first place, but I missed you and I needed you. I needed a friend. Wait, scrap that. That sounds like I don't have any. I needed you as a friend. So then I thought of all those stupid pranks and just hoped your number would still be the same."
"Why the pranks, though? You could've just looked me up on Instagram or something. Why go through all this trouble?"
"I was scared back then, too. I didn't know if you even wanted to talk to me. Tell me, Finn, would you have answered if you had known it was me?"
"I think so."
"See? You're not sure. That says enough. You probably never even thought of me until a few days ago."
"That's not true, El."
"So did you? Think of me?"
"I did. I must admit that there was a time when I didn't. After I moved here, I got caught up in life. New house, new school, new friends. That's probably why we lost contact. But then on some nights I would miss it, miss us. Some nights I wished I could've gone to your house and just be like we used to, but I knew I couldn't."
"So why didn't you try to contact me? You could've looked for my social media."
"I did actually. I found your Instagram profile. I looked at it sometimes, but I was too scared to actually message you, just like you were."
"I wish it wouldn't have taken us four years to start talking again."
"We'll just have to make up for all the time we lost."
"Yes, absolutely."
"Hey, Ella? You know I love talking to you, but my friends are here and I've been making them wait for several minutes now. I'll call you tonight?"
"Alright. Have fun, Finn."
"Bye, Ella."
