eric strolled to school that morning, dodging cars and skateboarders on his way. he tightly clutched his backpack straps, making himself look even more kiddish than he already did. eric was dressed in a colorful, pastel hoodie, shorts and a pastel yellow snap-back which somehow managed to make the petite boy look like a 5 year old.

the way he acted didn't help much either. eric was always so bright, cheerful and energetic. nothing could bring this kid down, not even what he was about to face.

eric was roughly shoved as soon as he turned the corner, making him fall toward the road. he was lucky enough to catch himself, brushing himself off. but he was shoved to the ground as soon as he attempted to stand again.

eric whined a little.

"come on guys! can't we just skip one day?" he pouted.

that got him another harsh kick.

eric whimpered, holding his probably bruising shoulder.

the bullies took his backpack, making him gasp. eric quickly got up, reaching for it. one of the bullies tightly wrapped his arms around eric, not letting him go.

"hey! g-give it back!" he cried.

eric whined again, watching them go through his stuff.

"s-sunwoo! please!" he begged.

sunwoo looked at eric and scoffed, roughly tossing the backpack into erics chest. the boy sighed, closing his backpack as the bullies left.

eric never got mad. why? because he knew they had their own shit to deal with. nobody is just naturally angry, something has to happen to make them that way. so eric never fought back, or cried, or yelled, because he didn't want to make their day worse.

eric walked the rest of the way to school, stopping at the nurses office first to get some bandaids for the cuts.

with that, eric dragged himself to his first class, sitting beside his best friend.

"hey hak!~" he smiled.

"hey eric!" haknyeon beamed, moving his backpack so eric could sit.

haknyeon frowned deeply, seeing the bandaids.

"..sunwoo got you again, didn't he?" he asked.

"yeah-- but i'm okay! i promise!" he smiled.

haknyeon ruffled the boys hair.

"you always are" he said.

eric nodded happily before focusing on his work once the bell had rung. he and haknyeon had always been good students. they were actually their teachers favorite students and they adored him in return. not only were the two smart, but they were kind and respectful, not to mention how bright and happy they were.

they worked diligently and sparked a conversation with the English teacher for the last few minutes of class.

eric and haknyeon were the last to leave and even held the door for the teacher as they made their way to lunch.

"bye mr. nam!" eric smiled, waving to him.

mr. nam waved back, going to the teachers lounge for his lunch.

so eric and haknyeon approached the cafeteria.

lunch was probably haknyeons favorite period.

but for eric?

...it was his most dreaded
