"Smells like grass."

Selah's pov

"Why don't you ever talk about yourself?" I looked up from my ice cream and over at Daniel.

This whole date he's been asking questions about me but when i ask him something he puts it off and asks me something.

"Im boring."

"I highly doubt that. You weren't born and raised in a  boring town in Maine." I laugh.

"Well i guess you can say im just interested in you." He shrugged and i couldn't help but smile like a dork.

"Okay. What else do you want to know?" I smile at him as i watch him steal some of my cookie dough ice cream.

"I heard Terry mention that you were an adopted sister." He spoke up. I could tell his tone was awkward and clearly he immediately regretted mentioning it once my smile faded.

"Uh well yeah.."

"Forget that i mentioned it. Its not my business." He smiled nervously.

"No its fine." I shake my head.

Then awkward silence grew.

"My dad was just out of the picture. Never met him. Never wanted to meet him. My mom... she had me very young and she just wasn't ready to be a mother yet. She only cared about herself. She was too busy hooking up with guys and using them for free drugs. So she was going to leave me at a fire station but her best friend took me in. That just happened to be Terry's mother. So i think of her as my mom." I went on and on.

Daniel's eyes never left mine.

"Wow.. im sorry about that." He let out a sigh following with a frown.

"Don't be. I'm so happy to have Terry's family. They are my everything."

"Has your mom tried reaching out to you?" He raised a brow.

"No... she actually passed away from a drug overdose when i was 15." I put my hair behind my ears.

"Oh shit." He mumbled.

"Yeah." I nodded.

"Well um... its crazy to say this but... i can relate." He cleared his throat.

"Really?" I mentioned as i looked at him.

"Yeah um... my dad was too busy with work and my mom was just a druggy. So she passed away. Leaving me with just my brother. So i matured really fast."

"You have a brother?" I smiled.

"Yeah..."

"Did he move here with you?" I question.

He just looked down and shook his table.

I figured i should just leave it at that.

"I like you." I blurted out as he looked up at me and smiled.

"You are actually someone who can relate to me. I never get that." I shrugged. "They just say 'wow i couldnt imagine being abandoned' or 'you poor thing' or 'you must be broken."

"I fucking hate that shit." He shook his head.

"Me too."

"Why are we walking in the grass?" He groaned as i dragged him into the grass.

"Oh be quiet." I laugh as i sit on the grass.

"Oh hell nah. What if theres dog shit?" He mumbled.

"Dogs cant shit on this grass." I laugh as i pulled on his arm. I gestured to the sign.

"That dont stop them." He laughed as he sat in front of me.

"Why are we sitting here?"

"I figured you never smelt fresh air living in California. So i just wanted you to sit here and smell it. Appreciate it." I smiled at him as he took in the air.

"Smells like grass."

"Oh my god." I threw a piece of grass at him causing him to tackle me gently.

I laid on my back laughing as he hovered over me.

Its a little too soon for kisses aint it?

He wont do it.

He stopped and looked at me as i just smiled.

"You are really fucking cute." He took a picture.

"Ew no delete it." I groan as i push him over and ended up on top.

"No im keeping it." He locked his phone.

"Give it." I laugh then that laugh turned into a gasp as i felt his hands on my hips to keep me balanced.

This is gonna be a wild journey.
