The neighboring town of Night Vale was even stranger than Hawkins, Indiana. Whispers and rumors circulated during book clubs and bake sales, each murmuring about the children who seemed to roam on their own terms and the adults who either disappeared for days on end or ran the questionable businesses that never seemed to close.

Nevertheless, Night Vale stood with no concrete cause for concern until the summer of '85, when the body of the mayor's intern was dumped at a junction in the road near the two towns. An investigation was inevitable, but no one, least of all the people of Hawkins, wanted to get on the bad side of the people of Night Vale.

Scout Murphy had his own problems to worry about. From an aloof father that frequently seemed to forget he had a son to coming up with music with his band — granted, it was only him and his best friend, but it was a band nonetheless —Scout figured there were more than enough people involved to solve a murder in the next town over, even if it was eerie as Night Vale. Minding his own business hadn't failed him yet, so it was safe to assume that whatever business that went on with the two towns had nothing to do with him. Steve Harrington, on the other hand, had other ideas, and he knew just the place to start.

There was no doubt that Night Vale was strange. It was not the place for bike rides and sightseeing, yet that was what the three teenagers of Hawkins, Indiana set out with in mind. But in their youthful rush to figure out the mystery, they neglected to consider the consequences of what might happen if they found what they were looking for, and that some things are better left alone.
