Scraped knees on asphalt

And blood on bandaids.

Fragrant roses in a vase

And the silky feel of petals.

Lipstick applied in a bathroom mirror

And the butterflies after a first kiss.

Cranberries and popcorn on a string

And gently glowing lights.

Fresh strawberries in a bowl

And stains on clothing and mouths.

Angry glare after insults

And an aching feeling in the heart.

Ladybugs crawling over fingers

And ants biting into skin.

Robins singing in low tree branches

And feathers tucked into a branch.

Tired eyes after crying

And a text that hurts more than thorns.

Fancy chairs in a movie theater

And crushed velvet rubbing against hands and legs.

Wind-chilled cheeks on a frosty winter day

And runny noses going numb.
