Harry dipped his foot into the bath, wondering how Neville had known what to do with the egg.

He shrugged it off and slipped into the warm water.

The Golden Egg sat on the wet tiles around him, it's golden exterior reflecting the light peeking out of the closed curtains.

Harry examined the carvings one last time before pulling it inside with him.

He ducked his head into the water and, counting to three, he pulled at the golden claws.

The piece slipped off and sunk to the bottom of the tub, Harry didn't move to retrieve it.

The golden exterior peeled off, revealing a delicate interior.

The pearly sheen turned opalescent before revealing turquoise eggs and shimmering fish.

Bubbles surrounded them, clinging to the sides of the glass.

The screeching had been replaced with a soft, incomprehensible lullaby.

But when Harry pressed his ear against the egg, he could hear the singing voices quite clearly.

"Beneath the waves, harken to our song,

With walking creatures, we don't belong,

We'll give you an hour to retrieve,

What, if you lose, will be yours to grieve,"
