AROHA'S POV*1 month later*
Tonight is the church fundraiser and I'm excited as. This first month, I've become mates with my brothers friends. We'd play rugby and eh wouldn't go easy on me because I'm a girl. That's good.I've become close mates with one of the twins' best friend Siaosi. He's pretty choice. Laquasia & Hinemoa moved out last week n found there own little house near home. Siua moved out as well. So our house is a little bit empty but it looks as if we are all here.
We walk to the church hall which is about 5 minutes away. I see heaps of people and girls wearing what looks like tapa and some decorations. They look pretty choice in that.
The twins and I are doing a Whakaeke and Haka. Another performance with me & mum doing a poi dance while our last dance is me performing a poi dance alone. Were the last to perform but we'd probably be the best.
Right now Laquasia is doing my Ta Moko while mum is doing the boys. I wrapped my poi behind my back and the boys hold on tight to there Patu (weapon). I do the same. Then mum comes and showers us in.... Oil? What is the oil for?
All the other girls n guys have danced. Tonga's got some pretty beautiful dancing I must say. And lovely singing. The host is speaking through the microphone and all I understand is "The Tauali'i Family". All 3 of us walk on. Riki on my left and Tafae on my right.
We start and we go full Maori on this. Waving our Patu's around and chanting while the boys poke there tongue out from time to time. We say our chant with courage & confidence. I see that we may have scared off the little kids a bit. We continue to chant.
Tenei ano e whai ake nei
Te whakapapa I piri ai
Te kingitanga o Waikato e
Ki te tairawhitiKo porourangi nana
A ueroa
Ko tokerau ka puta ko
Hei!We finish. My brothers are kneeling on one knee, holding up there Patu while flicking their tongue up and down. I'm standing up with my Pukana face exposing my Ta Moko, one arm in the air and another infront of my chest. Both hands shaking rapidly. The village cheer while I walk back as my brothers begin their haka.
Kamate kamate k'ora.
ko ra tenei te Tangata puhuru.
Hu'u ru nana e tiki mai,
Whakawhiti te rahu
Pa'a hu, pa' hui pane.
Kau pane whiti te ra
Hei!After that the boys move back as I move forward. Mum walks over and stands beside me. Aww mum looks skuxx in her maori attire. We begin our dance as we take out our poi. Me and mum sing while dancing as the boys move side to side singing.
After the song mum walks of leaving me and the boys. I kneel down and sit on my knees. I don't really want to sing since this song is like a solo so I wait about 30 seconds before I start. I lean forward and open my mouth.
Takiti takiri takiri
Mahia mai nga mahi
Ko herua hei ariki te wahine punehunehu
Hua tipu te hue hue
Papa I Raro tura I ko
I takiri takiri takiri!Takiri takiri takiri

Ka pai ra Tuku tirata ka pai ra Taku tirata
Haere rutu mo ta, haere rutu mo Ta
I takiri takiri takiri!Takiri takiri takiri
He Koro ko rito re he Koro ko rito re
Naku te rete, naku te reteI finish and grip into my poi that is now in my palms. We all stand and bow and that's when I notice all the money on my clothes. Oh that's what the oil I'd for. I notice people walking up to me but I didn't notice they had money.
The boys walk towards the host for some reason while I begin to walk out. I feel a hand on my arm and turn. "Where you going egg? We need to give the money to that man" Tafae informs me.
I slouch and walk behind Tafae. Serious? I could have made a job out of this and become rich! We walk and I see a tub. The boys start searching along them to find all the money. I do the same, and look around and inside my shirt, that's where I notice a $100 note I between my well you know what. What perv did this?
After getting all the money of us, I see we have clearly made heaps of money from our dance. We all walk back to our house to change. I get a towel and dry off all the oil.
I take of my clothes and put on some ripped jeans and a 49ers baggy t-shirt. I decide to leave my Ta moko on since it is pretty choice. I take of my head piece and flip my hair around like in those movies.
My hair is in loose waves, just how I like it. "Quasia, where's my rubber band?" I ask. "Nup, your leaving your hair out" she grins. "Uhh no I'm not! Where is It woman?" I ask.
"Yep you are" Hinemoa laughs. I shoot death glares and run to my room. I practically rip through my hats to find something to match. Unfortunately no, so I grab one of my black beanie.
I wear it over my head and walk to the front house to where Lauquasia and Hinemoa are. I walk and I feel someone tingling with my hair. I turn to find my two annoying big sisters fixing up my hair.
"What do you think your doing" I say prying there hands of my hair. "Fixing up your hair. What does it look like?" Hinemoa points out. " we're just trying to make you look, good" Laquasia smiles.
They continue to fix up my hair. I block both there hands. "Look, I'll let you fix my hair if you guys don't make me wear heels to church this week. "I ask. They both nod and fix my hair.
After a good 15 minutes they are done, my hair looks.... What's the word?.......... Oh yeah, it looks like a girl. I usually have my hair in braids. I quickly slip on my black high tops and we walk to the hall.
As we go and find seats I see the next group to perform. Siaosi and I'm guessing his relatives. There are heaps of boys by the looks of it. Well I think they are doing an all guys dance.
They are all covered in oil & feathers? I laugh a bit. I notice they are all pretty built n tall. "Stop drooling sis" Akosita laughs. I punch her arm causing her to fall on top of Meleane. I crack up laughing again.
Well I had to admit they guys were pretty attractive but nahh. Siaosi is like another brother and if they were related that would mean I would have like 20 brothers.
"This dance is called a Taufakaniua, it's pretty cool aye?" Laquasia whispers loudly in to my ear since the music is loud. I nod. Once they are off a fast song comes on and all the ladies walk to the front and start dancing. EVEN MUM!
"Ahh my eyes, my eyes! My precious blue eyes!" I yell looking at mum. The girls start laughing. I can't take this anymore so I walk over to my brothers. "Enjoying the misinale sis?" Riki asks. "Oh so you going full tongan on me now bro?" I reply.
"Misinale means concert you egg" Tafae buts in. "Oh. Yep these dances are pretty choice" I laugh. We watch as the ladies dissemble back into there seats. "Malo (thank you) mum!" I yell.
A group of girls come out wearing tapa. Half sit down while the rest are standing behind them. The song starts and the girls on the ground start juggling round things while the ones standing and gracefully dancing.
Far this looks cool. Juggling the round thingys in the air without dropping them. After their dance we clap. That was the last dance so we all walk home. I get home and change my pants to matching basket ball shorts. Laquasia knocks on the door.
"Me and Hine are going now. Until next time sis.... Oh n uh here" she says throwing my rubber band to me. "Later sis!" I yell closing my door. Tonight was a pretty fun night.
