The party was busy, so busy that you had to squeeze through clumps of people and couldn't stand still for two seconds without having your drink bumped or your shoulder knocked. Everyone was there, drinking, shouting, kissing and laughing, the music blared and the beer flowed. You stood beside your boyfriend as he was huddled around a table, cards in his hand, face twisted with concentration as the poker game played out, you glanced around the room as you sipped some foul-tasting concoction from a plastic cup, you had no idea what it was, but it made your stomach burn and your head swim.

"Fold, god fucking dammit!" he yelled as he slapped his cards down onto the table.

The other players snorted laughs at his annoyance as he looked over his shoulder at you

"You're bad luck, go dance with some girlfriends or something, I dunno, I can't focus with you hovering around me like this" he commanded in an aggressive tone, the other guys around the table paused, all eyes transfixed on you as you blushed from the embarrassment of being scalded.

"No problem" you huffed as you slammed the cup down on the tabletop and whirled around to leave.

You cursed yourself under your breath as you pushed your way through the crowds, you'd styled your hair, you'd put on makeup and you'd bought a cute dress, all for tonight and it had resulted in you being drunk and yelled at in front of most of the guys from the football team. You stomped up the stairs and shoved your way into an empty bedroom, where you slumped down onto the bed in the dark and let out an annoyed sigh.

After a while, you heard the door slowly ease open as the light from the hallway spilled onto the carpet and you gave a frustrated groan, expecting it to be your boyfriend, creeping in with an alcohol scented apology while he kissed your neck and mumbled slurred promises

"Go back to poker, I'm not in the mood" you grumbled as you turned away from the door

"Poker?"

The voice made you roll over and look, it was husky, confident, deep and rolled through a devilish grin

"Billy?" you asked as you squinted through the dark of the room

"Mhm" he confirmed as he clicked on the side lamp in the room

A black button-down shirt, open to his stomach clung to his broad shoulders and thick arms, tight, faded blue jeans hugging his thighs and the cherry-red glow of his cigarette shone out from pursed lips that spread into a smile.

"What are you doing up here all by yourself? Dressed up all pretty like that" Billy purred as he stood in front of you, his blue eyes tracing your body up and down as you lay on the sheets

You scoffed and looked away from him petulantly without answering

"Y'know, I don't think you're bad luck, I just think he's really shitty at poker"

His comment made you laugh quietly as you turned back to face him and he slowly eased down beside you, making the mattress dip

"That is one very pretty dress you're wearing" he charmed as he pulled his bottom lip in through teeth

"You think so?" you asked playfully as you twisted your body to face him, propping yourself up on your elbow with a smile

"I do, now–" he started as he dabbed out his cigarette on the end table and exhaling smoke through his nose

"–I seem to recall a deal" he said as he lay down beside you on the bed, his face inches from yours, the scent of cigarettes, beer and cologne intoxicating you more than any drink served at the party downstairs
