He made love to her slowly and watched her closely, wanting to take in every moment. His heart had swelled with love and relief when she had shifted. He had been trying to do things to rouse her wolf since the day he had guarded her bathroom door all night to ensure no one else discovered the truth.
He had then tried again in the woods, but her wolf had not connected with her human self. It thought itself a single entity. He still didn't know how she had done it. He could only assume her mother had found a way. Now he had to protect her until they found out how.
Once other females could shift, she would no longer be a danger. Right now, though, someone could take her and find out for themselves and sell the knowledge. Right now, she was a walking prize to be used how anyone sought. Some males might even kill her to ensure males superiority. He knew some he thought might.
Their wolves instincts of pro-creating might have woken it some, he concluded. He knew firsthand now how strong it could be, even more so likely because she wasn't just a human anymore. There were many parallels between wolf shifters and their wild cousins, as his kind had begun to refer to them as. The need to find a mate and have pups, was one of them.
He could only assume this started after they had made love and he had taken her virginity. Her anger mixed with lust had woken it the rest of the way. Fear would have likely worked as well, but he wouldn't have her afraid of him. Given her past, she would have never gotten over it.
If the process was like he suspected, whatever triggered it, only needed the aid of an intense emotion to awaken it the rest of the way. Her running as a wolf, but not fully connection was likely part of it. Male shifters were known for being emotional with mood swings because of their wolves' influences, it was likely a female wolves influence would do the same.
She had fallen asleep after they had made love, so he dressed her and carried her to the car. The fact she didn't wake showed him how much energy shifting had really cost her. He didn't take her home. Instead, he rented a hotel room. He wasn't chancing it anymore.
He had a completely private cabin far in the woods he usually used when he needed a weekend to run. He would take her there and protect her. Only Rhetta knew of it and given the scolding she had given him before; she would rather die then give up Denali's location. Rhetta had even refused to come back when he had asked her. She had wanted to stay here, with her and Takota now completely understood why.
He would never find Denali again if Xena and her dad got ahold of her. He wasn't chancing it. He was getting Denali away from here and with the video evidence from tonight, he knew he could find enough help to protect her. He had known he had needed proof, but now other alphas would help, and he could get this moving. He only hoped it wouldn't take long to figure out how she had done it.
Xena likely suspected something was going on. He had barely spent time with her since he discovered the truth, and she was a vengeful person whose dad had no limits to get his little girl what she wanted. Takota hadn't been able to stand being by someone who would try to rob someone else the chance of finding their mate. Just thinking of Xena angered both he and his wolf. His wolf was still bitter for falling prey to her change in scent and everyone knew an alpha wolf didn't let grudges go quickly. That was another reason, no one crossed Xena's father, unless they were forced to and had numbers on their side. Few Alphas were true alphas, whose wolf was born for the role.
Alpha Delope was nearly a legend in the alpha world for the things he would do for his family and pack. His methods had nearly alienated him from other packs. This now, might work to Takota's advantage. If Alpha Delope got ahold of Denali, he would either kill or use her as a brood mare. That would only happen over Takota's dead body.
