Where am I? And...and when did I pass out?
As I regained consciousness and slowly opened my eyes, I remembered what had happened. I'd been abducted by Emperor Xizzle, and I was now lying on what felt like a metal table.
There was no one else in the room with me at the moment, and I didn't hear any movement outside, so as quietly as I could, I slipped off the table and made my way out into the hall. Like the room, the hallway was pretty much deserted.
That is, until a group of aliens suddenly turned the corner. It didn't take long for one of them to spot me, and my first instinct was to take off running in the opposite direction, despite never having been on this ship before and not knowing where the hell the exit was.
Needless to say, the aliens caught up with me and grabbed me before I could get any further. "You won't escape," one said. He had surprisingly good grammar for an alien, and he looked very similar to Xizzle, only without a jetpack or monocle.
"Yeah? Watch me!" I continued struggling to break free from their hold. "Why abduct me, anyway? What the hell purpose does that serve?"
"We are acting on Emperor Xizzle's orders, human manager Alessa," the alien replied, "We assumed it was because you are the only one who actually tries to fight us off when we invade your town."
"That's 'human mayor' to you, now," I muttered, "And that's a fair assumption, but it's not like the others can't fight you off, too."
"Their fear of us stands in their way."
"Not always," I countered, "Would you like to let go of me now? I have things I really need to take care of and I can't do that in your ship."
"Such as?" he inquired.
"Such as stopping those of you that are still down in Strangetown, plus stopping a woman who wants to take it over by summoning something called the Prime Heifer."
"That will not happen. Taking over Strangetown is Emperor Xizzle's job. I would like to propose a deal, human manager. We eliminate this woman for you, and you remain with us on the ship," the alien offered.
Hmm, let's see...no deal," I said. If the alien had eyebrows, they would have been raised at this statement. "Your way of eliminating her would be to kill her, and I don't want anyone dead. And there's no way in hell I'm staying up here."
"Oh, we'll see about that. Wait until--"
"Release her," I heard someone command, and turned to see Xizzle there, looking to be in a fair bit of pain. Clearly he and the others had had to retreat. "We have defeated been. You may go this time only, human manager Alessa."
Suddenly, I was beamed back down to Earth, directly in front of the hotel.
"Where on earth have YOU been? Apparently you have better things to do than keep Strangetown from being swallowed up by the desert," Cory exclaimed when he looked up and saw me come in.
"You want me to apologize for being abducted by Xizzle's stupid minions?" I asked, mildly irritated.
"My apologies, Alessa, if I'd have known that's where you'd been..." Cory looked like he felt pretty guilty for snapping at me now.
"It's fine, I get it," I assured him," I'm just tired of Xizzle's shit."
"We all are," he said, "Now listen, I have a few messages for you...just to let you know...Kent Hackett checked out earlier in a terrible fit and paid only half the bill. Kayleigh Wintercrest, on the other hand, checked out in a pretty happy mood. Her bill was paid in full! Penelope Redd checked out earlier in a pretty sad mood. The bill was paid, but Penelope left no tip, unfortunately. It was the same with Giuseppi Mezzoalto. On Saturday Jeb jerky complained about the youth of today. He berated them for having bad manners and too much money.
"Sounds amusing," I remarked.
"I thought it was," agreed Cory, "On Sunday Mamma Hogg came by to purchase some paintings...but didn't. On Saturday, Tristan Legend paid her a compliment, and she fainted. And hey, while you were gone one of the toilets was repossessed since you couldn't exactly pay the bills."
"Thanks for the funny bits of news, and I'll pay those right away," I replied, and went to do just that. The bills, in total, came up to $2, 832. I'm going to kick Xizzle's ass for this, I thought bitterly as I got the bills taken care of. The hotel had gotten a fair bit dusty as well, so I had it cleaned thoroughly and replaced the repossessed toilet--and got the stupid power back on--before checking some people in. Even during all of that, I had time to take a nice shower and get some food in me.
Afterwards, I immediately set out to check on the sarcophagus. As soon as I entered my suite and looked toward where I placed the thing - the little alcove beside the bathroom - Horus appeared before me once again, climbing out of the sarcophagus in his old body just as I had hoped. "Ah! It has been so long since I felt the earth pushing up against my feet. At last I can fight the Prime Heifer's evil with my own! My own special brand of evil! Ha ha ha! Pardon me...I must now assess the strength of my adversary. I will contact you when I am ready."
"I'll be waiting," I replied. Now that I had nothing else to do, I decided to turn in for the night since I was so tired from everything I'd had to do upon my return. Apparently I'd been unconscious for a few days up in that ship, which was why everything piled up so much. I fell into a dreamless sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, hoping all of this crap with the Prime Heifer would be over soon.
