After another sleepless night in my terrible, terrible dare I say bed, it was dawn and Mikasa woke us all up with an intimating look. I hopped down out of my bed onto the wooden floor and felt my feet make way for dust particles to fly around off the ground. I rose my  arms and went into a stretch but by the time I felt my back crack and myself waking up it was time to leave.

We made it to the dining hall just after the guys did which proved inconvenient since all the other tables were taken except for one in the back where Jean sat alone, waiting.

I got my food and went to go sit with him. He smiled a little and said "we're using the 3D maneuvering gear today."

"I can't wait." I replied heartily. "I think I'll do pretty well on it. See the key is balance, you've gotta keep upright or else it just won't work." I continued while glancing at Jeans eyes. I liked his eyes. A lot actually. They weren't just brown to me, they were this soft creamy gold that melted together into a perfect shade that would always radiate warmth.

"Hey dumb ass did you even hear me..." Jean said, and at that moment I'd realized I completely wasn't listening. "Tch, you need to stop staring at me like I'm some picture." He went on. But by then Marco came over and sat down next to me.

"Hey guys did you know were using the 3D maneuvering gear today!" He said excitedly.

"We know Marco, it's almost like we have ears and listen to the commandant." Jean went on rudely. I gave Jean a dirty look for dealing such a sarcastic comment and cleared my throat before I spoke.

"He means, thanks Marco we're excited too, and sorry about Jean, it's his time of the month if you catch my drift..." Marco snickered and Jean gave us both the meanest look he could without physically hurting us. But we just kept laughing, clearly pissing Jean off more.

After that I think Marco was scared to see what would happen next if he stayed in a 10 foot radius of Jean any longer, so he decided it was his turn to go see someone else, he said, "Alright Jean, (y/n) I'll see you both during training!" And he went on his way.

I liked Marco. He was nice to everyone, even Jean which is rare. I mean it's kinda scary to think Jean's only two friends here are me and Marco but I guess he's just not the social butterfly... no scratch that. It's not that Jean's not a social butterfly, it's just that he's not nice in general, to anyone really.

"What a loser Marco is." Jean spat out and rolled his eyes. I rolled my eyes back at him and laughed a little at the comment.

"You really hate friends don't you?" I replied. I could tell this agitated him a bit. His face got tense and you could see the aggression in his eyes, and that's when I thought to myself, 'he really is a jerk huh.'

"Tch, it's not like that." He said.

"Then what's it like?" I questioned. To be honest I was a little eager for this answer. I knew he wouldn't spill easily either. I could see him mentally fumbling over ideas and then he opened his mouth.

"It's like-" He started

"EVERYONE TIME FOR MORNING COMBAT PRACTICE." The commandant roared into the dining hall.

"Anyways we should go." Jean spoke softly. This was a change for him. Normally he was loud and obnoxious but not now. He was soft and quiet. I definitely touched a nerve with him...
