The very first poem I've ever written entirely for me. Its based off of my grandpas workshop, where we do a whole lot of welding. The prompt was a poem titled 'Steps to Freedom', and we were to create our own poem about steps to blank. Enjoy!

Steps to Melting Metal

A topless table

A frame of what it is thought it should be

Modified to an unthought purpose

Lined with hardened drops of liquid metal

Polkadots of projects passed

Blaring music

Deafening notes

Secret songs

Small flecks lost in the sea of popularity

But big stitches holding me together

Pulling in my wandering mind

Battle armor

The last line of defense for fragile skin

Fabric gauntlets protecting hands, delicate and worn alike

A visor made of tinted glass protecting vulnerable eyes from its place on half a helmet

Armour used by many, passed on so others may fight

Learned finesse

Ready trigger fingers on careful steady hands

Mindful flicks of a wrist, calculated movements

Locked elbows, tense shoulders

Unblinking eyes, seeing, calculating, focused

All parts of me, the machine using the metal melting machine

White hot flames

Enough to burn eyes as punishment for looking at them with a naked gaze

Enough to melt and burn. Metal, plastic, skin, me

A creators tool for melting metal

Liquid copper

Steel as hard as putty

Aluminum malleable as tin foil

Melded together in a permanent fuse

Forced to bond into something new

Metal repurposed into whatever I instruct it to be

All in a dingy dusty shop

An office of sorts for wise experienced men

Teaching me, a keen and curious girl

The steps to melting metal
