sitting in the Pokémon center waiting room ash was searching thru his pokedex looking at all of the moves his Pokémon could use and trying to come up with ways to combine them into something amazing. it was the sign of a great trainer when you were able to take the standard Pokémon moves that could be taught by anyone and turned them into specialty moves that only worked if the Pokémon had the training for it.

the skill was usually found in the Pokémon contests that were so popular around sinnoh and Hoenn as the trainers who entered those weren't focusing on battles with their teams but on what looked the best. ash was kind of in awe by the amount of training they put in to master their moves to the point that they had such fine control over their attack, the fine control was crucial to making sure that the attack didn't blow up in the Pokémon's face or cause more damage than intended.

"mister ketchum please report to the front desk your Pokémon are ready"

ash stood as he heard nurse joys voice come out over the intercom, gyarados had a lot of fun fighting with one of the older Gengar that followed him but the stubborn water dragon wouldn't concede defeat so Gengar had knocked him out to stop the battle, he would need to have a talk with gyarados about not overdoing it when it came to training since they wouldn't have been able to get him the help he needed if they had been out in the middle of the woods hours away from a center.

"hello ash your gyarados was a bit banged up but he should be just fine and ready to go by tomorrow morning" nurse joy said as he approached the front desk, suddenly the phone on the desk beside them started to ring causing the nurse to rush over just in case it was an emergency.

"hello cerulean city Pokémon center, how can I help you" nurse joy said as she answered the video phone.

"hello nurse joy it's professor oak are there any trainers from pallet town in the center right now I need to speak with them" professor oak's voice said as it came over the speakers getting a confused look from both him and the nurse.

"well your just in luck professor, it just so happens that ash ketchum is standing right here, ill let you speak with him" she said as she gestured for ash to round the corner and come behind the desk.

"hey professor, what's going on?"

"ash it's good to see you again, I need to ask you a favor, I need you to head out and check on my friend bill, for some reason he isn't answering his phone and since he lives out by the shore and surrounded by forest I'm beginning to get worried that something might have happened to him" the professor looked extremely worried as he shared his suspicions and ash understood his concern. only master trainers or those who have very experienced teams chose to live out in the remote parts of the world like that since there was always the chance that they could be attacked by a wild Pokémon that had grown incredibly strong simply surviving out in the wilderness away from human contact.

"don't worry professor I'll head out there right now to check on him"

"thank you ash, I'll the location of his light house to your pokedex and please let me know once you get there"

with that the professor ended the call and ash received a notification on his pokedex, the location it listed was a few hours walk away from the main roads around cerulean so once he had gyarados' Pokéball strapped to his hip ash left the Pokémon center and made his way toward the lighthouse.

along the way there ash wasn't surprised to not find many trainers wandering around in the forests other than a few bug catchers who thankfully stayed clear of him, there were very few things out this way besides the open ocean. even those training around cerulean rarely came out this far as there were plenty of places for them to train closer to the city which was always a safer bet so you could get to the Pokémon center quickly if you needed to.
