The usual conditions to obtain indulgence are:
- be in a state of grace and have at least a general intention to gain the indulgence.
- go for confession one week before or after the act
- receive Holy Communion preferably by participating in a Mass
- recite prayers for the intentions of the Church: one Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be
Nov 1 - Nov 8: A plenary indulgence applicable to the souls in purgatory on any and each day when you devoutly visit a cemetery and pray for the departed [atleast mentally].
Toties Quoties Indulgence explained in the next chapter can also be attained.
Nov 1, 2: (or on Sunday preceding or following it, or on Nov 1) A plenary indulgence applicable to the souls in purgatory when you devoutly visit a church or an oratory and recite an Our Father and the Creed.
The entire month of November
A partial indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory, is granted to the faithful who,
- devoutly visit a cemetery and at least mentally pray for the dead.
- devoutly recite lauds or vespers from the Office of the Dead or the prayer Requiem aeternam (Eternal rest).
Requiem aeternam
Eternal rest grant unto him/her (them), O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him/her (them). May he/she (they) rest in peace. Amen.
