No one would think Sakurai a priestess, the way she dressed now. Her skirt, her makeup, her hair, her sinister mask. Everything had changed in two years, becoming of the freedom she was given.

Her first mission was out in the countryside. It was a distance, so she saw many things on her way there. Powerlines is what she learned them to be called, the high wires that carried the thing called "electricity", and had to go on a train, a high speed moving horseless wagon with many compartments that moved on two railings, powered by coal. The things of this era were very strange to her. She fought against demons as assigned, solving murders of families and disappearances within temples.

Then she visited Ren Village, though it was simply a hidden village now. She came a bit late, finding that Haganezuka left her sword with Kotetsu and went on his way for deliveries. She wasn't given much time to stick around before being sent south for a house that people seemed to disappear from.

Walking along the path in the rice fields, she noticed a boy on the side of the path. The lightning boy (?) Looking sick and beat.

"Um... excuse me," she said, wary of other hunters for the sense that could sniff out demons—though she was sure her natural wisteria scent would ward off suspicion. "Are you, er, okay?"

"Oh! Miss, you call out to me for love at first sight! How kind!" he cried, immediately clinging to her leg. Which, was only covered by a sock and short skirt, which she pulled tight to cover herself as he looked upwards. "Please marry me!"

Was this how proposals work in this day and age? It seemed direct and plain, outright harassment to strangers. That, and she'd hardly be tied down before her dodgy first kiss.

"No, thanks," she replied, folding her arms and looking away. "I couldn't think to marry someone so lacking in respect. Please let go, I have orders pertaining to a house up the hill in the forest."

He only clung tighter. "Please, I don't have long to live and I don't want to die alone!"

This sort was the worst type of boy. Nothing like Jirou! Earnest, soft spoken, knowledge and an air of ease—the lightning boy before her lacked it all!

Disgust wasn't even a good enough word to describe her looking down on him.

"Hey! Why are you looking at me like that?!"

A boy grabbed him from behind by his yellow-lightning flash haori, pulling him back. "That's enough trouble for now! Can't you see that she doesn't want any part of your ideas?" it was the water boy, wearing a green and black haori with a box on his back... a life force burned within it. It was wrapped up in calm and caring aura—but it was unmistakably one of a demon. So this is what riled him on the mountain.
