Earlier Today.

"So she collapsed?" The officer looked at me, a semi judgemental look on his face. I nodded and crossed my arms over my chest, not really knowing what to do with myself at the moment.

"Riley." He sighed, folding his arms in the desk between us "Please start again, and be honest this time. What happened to her?"

"What do you mean?" I took another shaky breath, my eyes watering "I didn't do anything. I don't know what you want from me. She's gone. There was the food and then the fire and she-"

"She is presumed dead." The officer spoke slowly, as if he were talking to a child. And I suppose he is talking to a child, because I can't even breathe.

"But she-"

"Her body wasn't found, Riley. But if she really took whatever you said she did, pills, was it? If she took these pills then she probably went somewhere to die and we'll find her."

"She isn't dead."

"Not officially. But she isn't stable enough to live on-"

"How could her parents just give up like that? She's out there somewhere and you guys just say she's dead and assume she'll wash up somewhere?" I stand up quickly, tears rushing down my face and making me look even more childish than before.
