"Live for you, do things for you or else, you will never be happy."

Sumaya

I need to see a doctor. ASAP!

Why you ask?

Well, I think I'm on stage one of Delusional Disorders.

All because of a man!

The said man is staring right back at me. "You are not real! Poof! Go away! Disappear right now!" I shut my eyes tight and open them again only to find him staring at me with amusement.

"I know what to do, I'll just go ahead and ignore you. You're not worth my time." I turn around and almost jump out of my skin, the bag I had earlier rolls on the floor and everything in it scattters across the living room.

"You too?" I direct at the imaginary images of Farouq's parents.

"You all decided to gang up on me and fill my head with hallucinations so I can become your son's mistress?" I throw my head back and laugh out loud as they stare at me wide eyed.

"Well, guess what? I don't give a shit if you come with ancient skeletons, I'm not giving in to crap!" I go on all fours and begin to look for the lost tomatoes that rolled under the table and the sofas.

"Sumaya! What in the world are you doing? Have you gone mad?" Daddy's outburst halts my search.

"I think I have." I cover my mouth and let out a muffled giggle.

A gasp from the imaginary parents has me frozen on the spot. I jolt up and take a step back. I instinctively strech my arm out to Farouq who is closest to me and poke him twice, he's as real as the present.

Embarrassment courses through me when he shakes with laughter. But my misery is short lived when his father gives him a look that shuts him up immediately.

What are they doing here?

Dad's firm grip on my hand stops me from pouring the questions at the tip of my tongue.

"My in-laws, please excuse us." Dad forcefully tries to pull me away but I don't budge.

"Hold up! Did I hear you right?"

He doesn't reply and instead gives me a warning signal and I grudgingly follow him to the kitchen.

"You show up late, dressed like that and embarrass our family in that manner, and to top it off, we have nothing prepared to give them!" He whisper yells, wildly gesticulating his distress.

I fold my arms against my chest and watch his rapidly heaving chest. He should know that he ain't seen nothing yet, this is only the beginning.

"Taji, what is going on?" Mum queries as Salma and Fahir both flock into the room.

"You better get your daughter in check Zakia, or else . . . " He throws me a disappointed glance before exiting back to the living room.

"What happened? Why are you late?" Mum turns to me.

I narrate the whole ordeal and Mum tries to keep a straight face but fails, erupting with laughter that gives my siblings the go ahead to fall over each other with unending snickers. By the time they get a hold of themselves, their ribs are aching.

"On a serious note Sumaya, what are we preparing for our guests? This won't be ready in a long while." Mum gestures to the chicken in the bag.

"You know what? They can eat their ego for all I care." My statement cracks them up even more, resulting into another round of roars.
