~ Finally Safe ~

“Hey, (Name)? Wake up.” your younger twin whispered gently, shaking your arm lightly.
“Wakey, wakey. Eggs and bakey,” he tried again.
He groaned in annoyance, his cat ears twitching a little.
“Wake up, we’re gonna be late,” he said, irritated by you. He growled, before a light bulb went off in his head. A mischievous glint was mirrored in his eyes as an evil grin spread across his face. His long cat tail swayed, going along with his plans.
He got up close to your ear inhaling, before..
“WAKE UP!!!”
“AHHH!!!” you yelled out, jolting up from your sleeping position and falling off your bed and landing on the ground with a thud. You groaned, ears twitching whilst your brother snickered, attempting to hold in his giggles, before bursting out into loud fits of laughter. You had your legs still hung on the bed whilst your tail was wrapped around your waist. You were laying on your back with your arms sprawled out, hair messy and eyes squinting slightly as you were still a little sleepy.
You pouted, crossing your arms.
“Your so mean to meee,” you whined.
“S-sorry, ’lil sis. I’m so sorry” he said, replacing the ‘r’ with ‘w’. His laughter died down into small chuckles as he patted your head.
“I am your older sister! You can’t talk to me like that!”
“Dude, your older than me by 4 seconds.” he laughed. You stood
“Actually, it’s 4.5 seconds. Hmph!” you huffed, your tail swaying.

You and your twin were really close. Closer than most siblings to be honest. You guys did absolutely everything together and shared anything without an issue. You were inseparable, and could even telepathically talk to each other and read one another’s feelings, emotions and thoughts like open books! Also, you were born as Neko’s—half cat, half human’s—but nobody, not even your parents knew. Awesome, right? Even though your brother was younger than you, he acted as if he were older although you were actually born first.

“Come on. We have to go, remember?”

You groaned, still wanting to sleep a little more.

“Why?”

“We have to go to Karukura Town. After what happened yesterday we cannot possibly say here any longer. Plus we get to see some old accuaintances while we are there.” he smiled, softly.
You looked up at your twin, who was now hovering over you with one hand on his knee and one ruffling your hair. You swatted his hand away with a pout but no matter how hard you tried to suppress it, a small and clearly visible smile still managed to spread across your lips.
“Whatever Nath,”
You both started laughing, enjoying the moment of peace.

“Hey Nath, I'm gonna go pack now so we can start heading out later, kay?”
Nathaniel nodded as he walked out of the bathroom. His brown hair was dripping wet and water dripped down his body.
“Sure, I'm gonna do the sa-”

There was a loud bang from downstairs signalling that something had entered the house. Or someone. You quickly turned to Nathaniel seriously.

“Go to my bedroom and lock the door. I already have some of your clothes on there at the back of my walk-in-closet in the secret compartment we made 9 years ago. Go. Now.” you commanded.

“But.. what if you–”

“Nath. It’ll be okay. I'll be okay, I promise. I can’t—no, I won’t let them hurt you, but you have to go to my bedroom and lock the door. You can sleep there tonight.” you said again except in a much more tender, gentle tone.

You could see the reluctance in his eyes; fear, sadness and anger also visible, but he obeyed anyway. You swiftly hid your furry ears; your tail wrapping around your waist out of instinct.
Once you heard the door lock you walked down the stairs. Inhaling deeply, you faced the people known as your “parent’s” with absolutely no fear. As long as your brother was fine and safe, you couldn't care less.
