Chapter 9 Rewrite the Stars

Serena Gabena's POV

I couldn't remember how much time was spent while Braixen and I was looking for Ash and his Pokemon, but the sudden rush of what felt like fear was giving my heart and thoughts was enough to make it feel like a blur. But when my senses were right on track and soon, I found myself near an alleyway. And far close to that alleyway was Ash.

He was with Pikachu and Greninja, and they were alright, but he didn't seem to be happy, his jacket was open zipped showing a black shirt and his hair was a little ruffled which probably was due to all that running. He also seemed out of breath.

"Ash! There you are!" I said. That caught his attention which made him turn to see me. He didn't look happy, but did bear there face of fright and fear "What are you doing here?" I replied.  

"What am I doing here?" he replied in a somewhat angry tone "Why did you follow me?" "I had to, you ran off so quickly, even after we just got away from those Flare admins. After you saved me and Braixen from that Drapion's attack..."

"I didn't mean to do that" Ash suddenly said "I didn't want anyone to find out, I was supposed to take the hit." The words and the sound of his voice giving worry and fear that was also reflected in his eyes. This was something new, I never saw Ash act like this. Was he afraid of facing Team Flare after what happened?

"What's been bothering you about this?" I asked "What happened that made you scared of them?" "It's not Team Flare that's been...scaring me" Ash replied "No one wasn't supposed to find out about..." He hesitated and glanced at every direction as if he was making sure no one listening, then looked at me "...this."

He tugged on the left side of the collar of his shirt avoiding the jacket and lowered it to where I could see the place where the heart would be. There was something darkish gray contracting to his tan skin. It was in the familiar shape of Arceus' ring, but the symbol of the Pokeball was modeled in the middle instead of a hole. 

"Is that...?" I tried to ask, but I couldn't find a good word to describe what was printed on Ash's chest "It's a birthmark," Ash explained "Ever since I was born, I had this birthmark with me where my heart is. Along with this was other things." "What exactly are you trying to tell me?" I properly asked this time. Ash clasped his hands, closed his eyes, and calmly opened his hands. Small and swirling in the opened clasp of his hand was a ball of blue mist. It danced around his open hands as if someone was waving them around like ribbons, then it flew up and stopped near Ash's chest where it flew inside of Ash's shirt  and the birthmark was turned from dark gray to golden yellow and the blue mist disappeared towards it. The birthmark returned to the dark gray color after that.

That was something I never exactly have seen before unlike what Squishy has shown during our travels while it was with us. My mouth was open, but I felt speechless "What...was...that?" I asked making sure I was using my words right, Ash let go of his shirt covering his birthmark "That was Aura," Ash explained "I sure you've heard of it before many times. However, there has been...people that can use it...you saw the barrier I made. I could do that, use Aura and materialize it."

I was beginning to feel more speechless. It wasn't just the Bond Phenomenon Ash was able to use, this was something he was able to do since birth. Wait...now that I think about it...

"Not really talking, it's more like I could sense what they mean, I just know." 

Does that mean he could also understand Pokemon? That would explain everything!

"So, now you know," Ash replied. That got me out of my thoughts and back into the reality seeing present Ash there bearing a serious, but seemly sad look on his face "Now you understand why they want me of all people. I was born with these...powers...and people like them," he pointed to where other people were, trainers and their Pokemon companion walking together, adults going about their day, he was referring to those people "they don't want someone like me...someone with...these powers. Team Flare would just abduct me and they'll be glad. That's the reason I'm...not wanting to tell."

What he was saying came like a Flame Burst caught into my throat. Here right in front of me was someone I loved nearly all my life who was brave and a leader...actually was scared of the people that would want him in the lonely dark. But this was Ash, and I know Ash like I know my own soul. I can't agree with this.       

"Ash, that is the most stupidest thing I heard coming from your mouth. You know that isn't true, you know we care about you like a true friend. You know..."

"You know what?" He asked. I was going to say something, but my voice grew silent, I couldn't try to find another word to say. Ash only made a glare "thought so," he turned away from me, beginning to walk away from this area while Greninja and Pikachu only watched and attempted to follow, but something in my heart crept in pain. I couldn't believe what Ash was thinking about himself. I wanted to say more, I wanted to tell him that...

Serena: You know I want you.

This caught his attention. At first he stopped for a brief second with a swift jolt of surprise, then he turned back to me with a surprised look. This gave my heart thumps I couldn't ignore, but I had to keep going.

Serena: It's not a secret I tried to hide. I know you want me, so don't keep saying our hands are tied. You claim it's not in the cards and fate is pulling you miles away and out of reach from me, but you're here in my heart, so who can stop me if I decide that you're my destiny.

What if we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine? Nothing could keep us apart, you'd be the one I was meant to find. It's up to you and it's up to me, no one can say what we get to be, so why don't we rewrite the stars? Maybe the world could be ours tonight?

"You are ok with...this?" Ash was able to ask. I felt he was referring to what he showed me today, I gave a warm smile "I never wanted to give up on you Ash Ketchum," I said "You were a remarkable person than a boy I knew here in Kalos. I kept thinking about you and I discovered that...I may have as well fallen for you." Ash looked at me with eyes that were like stars. His right arm raised itself on the level of where I could held in, but as I almost was able to hold it, Ash pulled away in an instant. 

Ash: You think this is easy. You think I don't wanna run to you. But there are mountains, and there are doors that we can't walk through.

I know you're wondering why, because we're able to be just you and me within these walls, but when we go outside, you're gonna wake up and see that it was hopeless after all.

No one can rewrite the stars. How can you say you'll be mine? Everything keeps us apart and I'm not the one you were meant to find. It's not up to you, it's not up to me when everyone tells us what we can be. How can we rewrite the stars? Say that the world can be ours tonight?

Both: All I want is to fly with you, All I want is to fall with you, so just give me all of you.

Ash: It feels impossible.

Serena: It's not impossible.

Ash: Is it impossible?

Both: Say that it's possible.

How do we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine? Nothing can keep us apart cause you are the one I was meant to find. It's up to you and it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be. Why don't we rewrite the stars, changing the world to be ours?

It was as if we were riding the clouds in the sky. We both couldn't seem to feel our feet on the ground if there was one. His embrace was really warm and I could feel my hand feel something as if it was light like a feather. We were able to feel the ground once again and the only thing my eyes were stuck focusing on was on Ash, looking directly at me. 

Ash: You know I want you. It's not a secret I tried to hide.

But I can't have you.

We're bound to break and my hands are tied.

Then he walked away. Pikachu and Greninja followed. I just stood there. Doing nothing, but watch him vanish from my sight without moving a single muscle except for my eyes to blink. Ash Ketchum is in pain. And I know what to do.

I followed him. Braixen came with.
