Home used to be
The small blue house in the col-de-sac
The hole under the stairs
With the family of bunny living in it
The Apple tree that never quite grew
Christmas Eve's spent sleeping in the loft
Halloween with the friends around
Snow days sledding down the ditch

Home was the mountains
The snow
The cold

Home changed to the small green house on a hill
The small town stuck in the past
People who welcomed everyone
The rock
The festivals
The star lighting
The little town I still know. Like the back of my own hand

Home was the mountains
The snow
The cold

Home changed again
It became the grey house on the corner
A small playground we watched change
The tree about to collapse
The friends around
Clouds on the ceiling
Yellow walls
Storms
The floods spent floating down the street
Lemonade stands

Home was the beach?
The rain?
The heat?

Home changed to the gram-cracker colored house
White walls I hated
The quiet of the street
Change I wasn't ready for
Change that I resented
People I didn't know
Streets I didn't recognize

Home became the gram-cracker house
White walls I covered in art and memories
The pizza place down the road
The quiet of the street
Friends who feel like family

Home is
the Mountains
The beach
The snow
The rain
The cold
The heat
