"I don't want to go home right now."

Donovan heard Mercury say in a low quiet voice. They were driving in the car and it was about 4:30 in the afternoon.

"Let's do something today. Something cool and exciting." Mercury said with her million dollar smile. As she smiled her dimples showed and Donovan didn't breathe for a moment.

" and we have to do something because even you said you don't hate me. So if you don't hate me that means we're like friends and friends hang out with each other." she said as if she discovered the answer to the most difficult math equation. Donovan scoffed as he kept his eyes on the road.

"fine whatever just don't expect me to be nice to you." he muttered. He expected to be unhappy at the thought of spending any more additional time with Mercury but he unexpectedly felt content. He of course would never admit it but something about Mercury made him feel different. It was a feeling he couldn't explain a feeling so foreign he had no idea what to name it. What to think of it. What to do with it. He just wondered did she feel that feeling?

Mercury saw herself in the car mirror and happily put on some mascara and lip gloss. Her natural beauty was a beauty that didn't need improvement.

Skin as radiant and eye catching as the sun. Bouncy voluminous blond hair with a slight wave at the end. Bright green eyes that caused every girl in the room to be envious. The most rosy plump lips anyone has ever laid eyes on. Mercury was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful girls to have ever walked this Earth. Donovan couldn't help but catch glimpses of her.

Donovan drove the car and saw his reflection off the car window. He despised his looks. His boring, dull brown eyes that everyone seemed to have. His skin adorned a couple of scars. Scars he hated. The scars didn't just damage his skin, they also damaged him.

Mercury was completely oblivious to Donovan's self loathing. She watched the meadows of flowers as the car went down on the empty small town road. The different colors of pink, white and yellow all complimenting each other. The sun beaming from millions of miles away and still providing the little flowers light and life.

They had arrived at a roller skating rink. The neon bright colorful lights shining and captivating Mercury's eyes. She had never been roller skating before and she was beyond excited.

As they entered the building, they saw a chubby 40 something year old man with big glasses and a mustache at the front counter. Donovan gave the man money while Mercury was at awe due to the interior of the rink. It had a disco ball in the middle of the oval rink. There was a dark carpet with a star pattern on it. To the right side of building there were arcade machines that seemed ancient but well taken care of.  At the middle there was a guy selling popcorn and sodas. They rented the skates they needed. They wobbled to the rink with the skates on.

Mercury couldn't help but giggle as she watched Donovan stumble. Watching the tall man stagger and look so concentrated on the task was something she didn't see often. Donovan immediately snapped his head towards the younger girl. He then watched her struggle.

"We aren't even near the rink and we already both suck." Donovan said with little emotion, but he still managed to make Mercury laugh.

"That's the point of all of this, we have to learn. This is the fun part." Mercury replied and Donovan rolled his eyes.

"We have different ideas of fun," Donovan said as he helped Mercury get in the rink without slipping. She softly giggled as she watched him concentrate on not falling. They were both holding on to the railing trying not to slip. Donovan was behind Mercury, making sure she wouldn't fall.

"So what do you do for fun?" asked Mercury as she was trying to skate.

"Boxing. I like hitting things." He said roughly, and his cold eyes scanned Mercury's.

"Oh. You know I once took a taekwondo class." Mercury said trying to get Donovan to talk more. Donovan rolled his eyes when she said that.

"How is boxing in any way related to taekwondo." Donovan said.

"You're literally the biggest hater I know. Come to think of it you've been hating on me since I was like six." Mercury said playfully, she looked at Donovan then giggled softly.

Donovan's heart skipped a couple of beats. His palms started to sweat as he was getting nervous. His breathing was being irregular.

Is she flirting?

Donovan didn't know what to to say or do as he was overwhelmed. He's never really flirted with anyone before so he didn't know how to respond. He started asking himself if she was even flirting at all, maybe he was overthinking the situation he thought.

What the fuck is wrong with me? Fuck fuck how the hell do I respond to that.

"There wasn't really much to hate on." Donovan said with an unnecessary amount of rudeness. Mercury just laughed her angelic laugh. Her dimples showing and eyes gleaming, as they always do. Donovan would never understand this girl. A girl full of happiness, something he didn't have one ounce of. He started feeling angry, envious.

"Your so grumpy, your like the grinch. Except he was funny." Mercury said teasingly. Donovan scoffed, slightly offended.

"I am funny." He said irritated.

"Then say a joke," Mercury challenged. She stopped talking as she waited for him to say something. His eyes widened ever so slightly.

"Fine. What's a duck's favorite drug?" Donovan asked. Mercury stayed quiet, waiting patiently for him to finish the joke.

"It's quack." He stared into Mercury's eyes as she laughed.

"Oh my god, that was so bad." She said in between her laughter.

"Then why are you laughing," asked Donovan slightly embarrassed. A tiny bit of red covering his cheeks.

"I'm not laughing at the actual joke. I'm laughing at the fact that you thought you were doing something." She said out of breath.

They then fell into a quiet comfortable silence, as they were still trying to learn how to skate efficiently.  They didn't have to talk much with each other, as they seemed to be comfortable merely by each other's presence. Donovan was always slightly nervous around Mercury, but he was a bit more happier around her, although he would never show or admit it.

They learned after some time but quickly grew tired. They then took off their skates and called it a day.

Once they were exiting the building, the sun was starting to set. Letting off color into the sky. The sky was filled with a light pink color, making Mercury smile.

"Look at the sky isn't it beautiful."  Mercury said.  Her hair slightly messy from skating, her green eyes looking up with adoration.

"Yeah it is." Donovan said, but he wasn't looking at the sky.

What up broski's, yea I know it was a shitty chapter. So I know it's been months, and honestly writing isn't really like a hobby it's more something I do when I'm bored. Don't tell me to update, b/c I do this for fun and I don't like when people pressure me or try putting like a deadline on me if that makes sense. Sorry for the chapter quality, this was lame but imma try to try to make it better next chapter. I'll update when I get the motivation. btw I hope I don't sound rude when I respond to some things, bc that's really not my intention that's just how I speak 😭. and most importantly please stay safe amigos.
