LUCAS CADENCE KNOWS HE'S PROBABLY GONNA DIE YOUNG. from six he stopped caring about much. let alone himself. and at thirteen drugs became his priority. starting off lightly with weed, although he hated the scent and how it stuck to your clothes kind of like how the smell of cigarettes stuck to his fathers before he quit. eventually progressing to the hard stuff, mainly opiates like oxy's and hydro's due to his fear of needles. a fear uncommon among his "friends".
often finding himself passed out in somebodies house he can't remember the name of or awakening out in someones yard, the teen grew used to his shameful walk home. ruffled clothes, unruly hair, and tears threatening to spill out of eyes from refusal to take his medication and the happy effect of drugs gone. it became a routine between he and his father for the heartbroken boy to make it home and find richard sitting on the front porch watching the sidewalks for his son. the two would cry, lucas would make a promise he intended to keep in that moment of sobriety and sadness of quitting and richard would simply nod and guide his golden boy into the house already having heard the same empty promises.
the relationship between the father and son was a rocky one. partly due to the treatment of lucas's little sister lillie. a child he blamed for the death of his mother considering she'd passed after giving birth to the youngest cadence family member from a postpartum hemorrhage. lillie often found herself the target of her older brothers aggression from withdrawal or purely hatred. it was this aggressive behavior that would cause lucas and his father to argue. the both of them spitting out the most hateful things in anger, though they'd never say them otherwise.
and this aggression also leading to the finale straw when it came to lucas and the decision to move fourty-two hours away to los angeles the city of angels.
