She smelt smoke. The sweet melting scent of it made her head spin and vision sputter in and out. Crackling of a fire pounded in her ears as a faint reminder of her defeat. The embers made little noise, as if muffled in some way. Her senses heightened, only to be met with a lethargic resistance. It was then, and only then, that she yielded. She let the darkness take her as her tears dried.
