Kaycee Rice

I attempted to begin such a poem as one would a flowery sonnet
Peppered with extravagant declarations of beauty and grace; as though
The amalgamation of your worth could ever rely entirely on external appearance
As though the rivers that contour the makeup of your person do not flow
Deep, deeper still; beyond even the seabeds of the earth
As though your spirit has not crushed mountains nor does it rival the glow
Of even the brightest of comets; no
Simply saying you are beautiful would only scratch the surface of your worth

So I begin again like this;

Words could never do you justice, no matter the number of sy - lla - bles
Because art is not meant to be structured and defined
Instead, it is open exaltation like your laughter that rings our uninhibited, like crashing cymbals
It is both wild and unrestricted like your curls, free to blow every which way
But if I must, I will compile all the words my brain contains so that there is never a day
You doubt what you mean to so many around the world.

A listing of everything I admire would take years so we'll settle for these; a compromise
Your love for everyone including yourself, the epitome of kindness and humility
The kind words and actions you sow, your heart personified; by which good harvest is a promise
Your passion for your art, the fiery nature in which you combine honesty, soul and creativity
But with every lesson you have taught me, from embracing individuality to positivity
It is your unwavering belief in staying true to you I admire most
A reminder that all anyone ever needs to do is to
Just be you.

Hellooooo. I just know wattpad is gonna fuck up the format of this ugh. But anyway, this is different :)) I can never claim to be a poet, mostly because I don't write poetry a lot lol but also because when I do it sucks ass. I'm too wordy of a writer to ever be good, haiku who?

But this is something I wrote for the last page of the little project I collaborated on with two of my favourite people in the world (hi Tiana and Mina) to send to Kaycee and I thought I would also put a longer, more buffed out, more just generally edited version here where there isn't limited space/time in which it needed to be completed :)))
