Rayannes POV
I stare at the clock wishing it could go faster. Just 10 more minutes til school ends. The dance performance is at 6:40 tonight.
I sit there watching the clock while my history teacher talks about different wars that America was involved in.
"Okay class, this is the last assessment you have for this year in history but it is also the hardest and largest weighing on your reports. You will have to work with a partner_" Everyone talks to their friends already arranging their group when Mrs Hedge talks again. "You have already been assigned to them." She says with a smile.
Groans are made throughout the room with disappointment.
"What you and your partner will have to do is, write a journal entry just like a soldier would in the war. You can choose any war and a soldier from any country. You must add photos, drawings, plants, souvenirs ec cetera to your journal. You must also make a presentation about the everyday life of a soldier. The journal entries must be done for a course of 2 weeks, so 14 entries, and it is due in 3 weeks. Okay so here are your partners."
She projects a document onto the board and it has a list of everyone in class and their partner. I scan the pairs. James and Joel, Anna and Taylor, I wonder how they would get along.
I blink a couple of times to see if I'm seeing things correctly. I rub them and sure enough its the same name. The last pair says- Rayanne and Katie.
I look over at Katie and she has the same expression as I do. I get along with everyone pretty well now but not much has improved between Katie and I.
Anna taps my shoulder and I turn towards her. She pats my shoulder in a pitiful way and says, "I feel for you, good luck."
She then gets up and makes her way towards Taylor.
"I will give you some time to prepare now so please go to your assigned partners." I reluctantly pick myslef up and off my chair and towards Katie. I sit next to her and she just checks her perfectly shaped nails as if I don't exist.
"So which country do you want to do? I think it would be better to choose a country that not many will choose, moany will probably choose America, Germany and England so which one do you want to do?" She asks never leaving her eyes from her nails. I've never heard her talk so formally and civilised.
"Umm okay, how about Australia?" I suggest. She looks at me normally, which is a first. "Okay, I'm actually kind of glad I was partnered with you since my parents want me to get an A in history. I will try my best to be civilised and kind to you so long as you help me." She says. I nod and open up a new page ready to write down points.
"Do you know anything about Australia's hiatory in war?" I ask. "I know that they joined with New Zealand and created their own army corps, I think it was called ANZAC. I also think that the poppy flower plays a huge part in their ceremonies so probably we could get a poppy and stick it into a page of the journal." I stare at her strangely, I pinch myself and wince.
"Why did you just pinch yourself?" She asks with a curious facial expression. "I wanted to check if I was dreaming." I mumble while rubbing my arm.
"I actually am not that stupid you know? I get an A in most of my subject but I always get a B+ in history, never an A." She explains, she grabs the pen which is still positioned in my hand and wirtes down a few points.
I did not expect her to be that diligent in school.
We actually work together, hard to believe I know, but we got heaps of information put together in a few minutes. The bell goes and we both pack our stuff. "Thanks for helping me Rayanne. I really appreciate it."
She smiles then heads out of the door. My jaw hangs open in disbelief. Someone puts their hand on my choulder and that shakes me out of my shock. I continue to pack completely ignoring the other person.
I turn and see Taylor. "How was it?" He asks as we walk out. "Surprisingly we were productive." I say.
I grab his hand and make him slap my arm continuously. He anks his hand away and looks at me weirldly. "What was that?"
"Nothing." I say as I walk away from him, I guess I'm not dreaming.

When i get home i quickly get started on my assignment.
Once I finish my notes I get up ready to take a shower when the doorbell rings around the almost empty rooms and halls of our house. I exit my room and see my brother getting out of his. He must have cancelled training.
We both bop down the stairs and to the entry hallway.
Harrison opens the door for our visitor.
Our visitor comes into the door.
"Hello children."
