CHAPTER NINETEEN. JANUARY 31, 2020.

it's been three months since eleanor died. three months since her heartbeat stopped on october 22, 2019. she's been laying still for three months.

peter's not allowed to see her. he breaks down every time, and hank figured it would be better for him to live his life as peter parker and spider-man. so peter stopped going to the mansion. he had to attend school again, forced to pretend that he didn't go home and cry every night. people asked him all the time, "where's eleanor?" "is eleanor okay?" "how's eleanor doing?" and peter had to lie to their faces, saying that the girl was sick and in the hospital. a lot of people understood that peter didn't want to talk about it, but some people would press on. they would say that's she's never been sick before. that it wasn't like her. flash was one of those people. peter understood that he cared for the girl, but he would ask peter every single day about her. peter, who was normally a patient and careful person, was close to throwing flash up against a wall and knocking his teeth out.

of course he never did that.

so, peter would tell flash (and everyone else) that he would relay the messages they had for her. he'd try his hardest not to cry as he listened to the heartfelt things their peers had to say.
the only people who didn't ask anything was ned, mj, and quentin. quentin had filled them in on everything that happened, and they decided to never bring it up until she woke up. they just didn't know when that would be.

it took michelle a little while to feel the effects of not having eleanor. after about a month, she found herself crying in the bathroom, wishing that she could text eleanor an article about women's rights and have eleanor reply something empowering like she always did. she missed walking into the cafeteria and seeing eleanor skip up to her with a bright smile on her face. she missed watching peter and eleanor look like an old couple, walking down the hallway hand-in-hand and talking among themselves. she missed eleanor.

ned of course, missed the girl, too. he didn't have anyone to send star wars theories to (besides peter, but he knew eleanor enjoyed them much more than peter used to). ned, determined to stay up all night with peter on the phone, listened as he cried. ned didn't get tired of it. peter was missing his soulmate. ned understood that.

but the one person who missed the girl the most out of the friends (besides peter) was quentin. it broke his heart in two to watch as the girl's heart stopped. he could no longer get into the girl's mind. right now, she didn't have one. she was dead.

idie tried her best to cheer him up. it took him forever to smile after the girl died. every single night, quentin walked past the room that ellie stayed in and tried to get into her head. just to make sure she was okay. but three months later there was nothing but silence. she would just lay there in her bed. the machines didn't beep. her chest wouldn't rise and fall. it was painful to see.

nobody's seen wade. after ellie died, he went straight to his house and has not left since. peter's not tried to visit him, he was too scared of what he'd see. peter guessed he drank all night, even though he couldn't get drunk. eleanor mentioned once that when wade was sad or bored, he'd stab himself in the thigh with a knife. peter figured there was a lot of thigh stabbing going on within the wilson-camacho household.

eventually, harry even missed her. it took weeks for charles to find a way into harry's head and convince him that he didn't want her to die. once he finally got through, harry felt terrible. a few days after being convinced, harry broke down into the worst crisis of his life. he felt like the worst person ever for stabbing peter. he knew what ellie would do. he knew she would save his life, and die in the end. and he knew that he would keep killing her over and over until she didn't wake up.

but now, he was back to his normal self. he knew that ellie didn't kill his father on purpose, she would never do that. he couldn't help but think that ellie felt terrible for it, and he wished that she would wake up so he could apologize.

he's tried to apologize to his friends - pete, mj, ned, quentin... but they wouldn't listen. he didn't expect them to. right now, he only cared about the forgiveness of one person. and that person was dead.

those three months were hell for everyone ellie knew.

it was now january 31, 2020. peter, mj, ned, and quentin went to bobbi morse's new years party, even though peter didn't want to. he wanted to spend his new years in eleanor's room, praying that she would wake up. but may forced him to go with his friends, and at least try to have a good time. the night was fine, peter ended up going home before midnight. when the new year started, peter was fast asleep.

the rest of the month passed with ease. peter was flying through his classes. he spent all his time either working on homework or being spider-man to get through the day without crying.

january went through in peter's favor. it was starting to get easier, knowing that the girl would wake up. he just couldn't wait until she did.

on the night of january 31, peter had finally gotten a break. he had crawled through the window of his room, took off his mask, and threw himself onto his bed. he took a moment to close his eyes and take a breath. the night was alive with crime; it seemed like everyone was going crazy and committing crime. peter felt relieved once his patrol was over.

the relief didn't last long, though, because his phone began to vibrate beside him on the bed. peter groaned out loud, but still picked up the phone and answered without checking to see who it was. "hello?"

"peter." the voice said back. peter sat up immediately and swung his feet over the side of his bed.

"q? what's going on?"

"get here right now. something's different."
