"The opponent you have to fight is no one other than your own image." – EMIYA Archer (Fate Stay Night)
It became a norm to have an aching body for the first half of the week once we began jiu jutsu. A month after learning how to roll, we still haven't been able to go anywhere but sideways or make ourselves look like pancakes. The only thing that we were able to do without looking like morons was falling, which was just about as what we could do. As the sensei came in and began to teach us, I watched as we learnt how to do certain moves such as how to hit dangerous parts of the body and interesting moves like how to do locks and kicks, although I was a bit sad that there were only three types of kicks since kicking had been one of my favourite parts in Taekwondo in the past.
"Man, you look like crap," Maia whistled as I sat across from her during our lunch break. My body was still aching despite it being three days since we had a jiu jutsu session and coupled with getting back late and not being able to fall asleep immediately, I was feeling pretty much like a zombie. "It's nothing. I'm getting used to it." "Dude, you shouldn't get used to pain like that! Are you a masochist or what?" "Nope I'm not." Maia was one of the friends I went to animation club with and since I had been out of touch of the anime world for a while due to being so busy with studies and having a bad Wi-Fi connection back home, she's been keeping me updated on the latest shows.
"Speaking of which, don't you have class on what day was it... Sunday?" she asked as I nodded. I had a little issue with attending the lessons because of how far it was and on Sunday I went to church so it made it pretty complicated when someone invited me home for lunch and I couldn't make it to lessons. Every time I missed training, I felt so bad about it but sometimes when I stood on the mat, I felt ready to just run out of there. "So did you learn any new moves lately?" "Mostly just how to kick and do dangerous parts. I think we learned how to use wrist locks but I have forgotten how to do them."
Another issue that I had was that I had a very poor memory and even if I wrote it down and practiced on a daily basis, without an actual human to practice with or use, it made it hard to get it right so I might be practicing the wrong move the entire time. I tried to practice rolling in my room as well but it didn't help as the space in it was narrow and the only thing I managed to do was to get really bad jabs from the corners of the bed. "If it that bad, why don't you just stop? It's not like you have any obligation to join it."
True, being in a club doesn't mean you have to be in it until the school was over. Although I had passed the trial period of the training, I still wanted to continue and was even considering on getting my own gi, the uniform worn during jiu jutsu training sessions but I was unsure to get it since once I got it, there was no backing out from it. "Speaking of which, you want to come to my place to watch anime on Sunday?" "Can't. Have training." Maia just clicked her tongue but didn't say further as we got ready for our next lesson.
Throughout the week, I was thinking about what Bruce had said about our training sessions. "So how soon can we get graded?" I asked as he whistled, "Well usually you get graded every three months so you'll be able to get yours in say... February? You should be okay by then." "I didn't know if he was actually telling the truth since I was so shoddy at it that I think Mike was trying his best not to up and leave for his own training. He and Bruce had been taking turns to teach us whilst Sensei Bertha taught the others in preparation for their exams.
"Here we go again," Cassandra said as we walked to Site Beta. Despite it being a long walk, I enjoyed the fact that we could enjoy the nice scenery we would not normally see since we never ventured to that part of town since it belonged to a different faculty. I was currently in the process of trying to study three sciences and maths, which was starting to drive me up the wall until I swap from physics to psychology, which was just about the only thing I seemed to be able to do right for the time being.
