Warriors: Wishes For Four

Chapter 5

SharkKit followed her mother to the highrock, eager to know what was going on. She than realized that it was the day that DewPaw, SilverBreeze's apprentice, was made a warrior of shadowclan. After SpottedStar had finished the traditional words, and the clan began chanting "DewClaw! DewClaw!" SharkKit noticed the look on her leader's face, and wondered what was on his mind. SpottedStar flicked his tail as a signal for silence. "Another thing," he began, "I'm going off to the moonstone, to share tounges with starclan." Some cats began whispering. "Something has been concerning me." Moonstone? SharkKit thought. What's that? SpottedStar took CharmTail with him, and went on his way. SharkKit thought about what HazelPaw had told her that morning. The monsters that were off the thunderpath- could it be something about that? She padded off to HazelPaw, who was walking with some prey in her jaws. "Hi HazelPaw, wanna play?" SharkKit mewed, running up to her sister. "Sorry, not now. I gotta bring prey to the elders." she replied, walking past SharkKit. HazelPaw had new responsibilities now, she realized, meowing agreement and walking away. She noticed SpeckledKit playing with his sister, their mother sitting by them. Not wanting to disturb them, and feeling a little tired, she walked off to the nursery to rest. She had only meant to lay down for a little while, but was asleep quickly. She had a strange dream, unlike any other she's had before. SharkKit found herself staring up at SpottedStar, who was sitting on the highrock, just as she had earlier. Her leader had his back turned, and turned around in slow-motion. A terrified look on his face, he leaped off the highrock and ran away as fast as he could. SharkKit heard a voice calling to her. "SharkKit! What have you done?!" she turned to see her mother staring at her, horrified. Confused, SharkKit was about to answer, when BadgerPaw jumped onto her and pinned her down, yowling in triumph. Trying to force herself to her paws, she felt the camp filling up with water. Monsters began to run into the water, roaring feircely as it filled up more and more. SharkKit held her breath and closed her eyes, when she heard an unfamiliar voice. It said "SharkKit, don't listen." Gasping, she woke up in the nursery. DarkFlower looked concerned for a moment, then let out a purr of laughter. "Bad dream?" she asked, wrapping her tail around her kit. SharkKit nodded, and forced her way out of her grasp. "I'm gonna go play." she mewed, walking fearfully into the clearing. She was relieved to see the clan going on as normal, when she suddenly noticed SpeckledKit walking up to her. "We're being made apprentices in only a moon!" he giggled, sitting next to her. "I know, I know." SharkKit replied calmly. "Time's gone by fast" he continues. "Will we still be friends out of the nursery?" SharkKit is surprised by how much she means to him. "Of course!" she purrs. SpeckledKit flashes her a grateful glance. "Wow! Look at BadgerPaw!" he exclaims. SharkKit turns her attention to her brother, who was tackling with ThornPaw. "Yeah, he's getting better at that." SharkKit mewed, not as excited. "I wanna be just like that one day." The two kits watched as BadgerPaw pinned ThornPaw down, she starts pawing at his face. One blow strikes the younger apprentice backwards, he lands hard on the grass. "BadgerPaw!" SpeckledKit yowls fearfully. "He's fine, he's been through far worse." SharkKit assures him. "Nice move, ThornPaw." Her mentor, FernEar, mews while padding over to them. "SpotHeart, did you see that?" SharkKit recognizes SpotHeart. That's HazelPaw's mentor! She realizes. "Yes. Very nice." SpotHeart says, swallowing the last bit of the prey he was eating, then standing up. "Are you alright, BadgerPaw?" BadgerPaw springs up. "Of course! I'm just getting started!" he meows before pouncing on ThornPaw again. BadgerPaw's mentor, Hawk, walks over to them. "BadgerPaw? Are you busy?" BadgerPaw forces himself away from ThornPaw. "Not too busy to train..." he meows, grooming his fur. "Well how would you like to go on patrol?" she purrs. "Of course I will!" BadgerPaw meows, walking closer to his mentor excitedly. He follows Hawk out of sight, a few other warriors and apprentices joining on the way. SpeckledKit turns to her. "Seems like apprentice training is exciting!" he mews. "Yeah. I'm sure we'll be great warriors." SharkKit replies warmly. SpeckledKit placed his paw on SharkKit's. "I'll always be here for you." he promised. SharkKit sighed. "You too."
