Jose x Reader part 2 <3

"Are you sure you can play?" Jose pestered the younger girl. 

"YES!" She groaned, rolling her eyes once more. She had recently gotten the cast of her leg, as Emily said it was healed. "Don't you trust Emily?" Jose sighed.

"Well, yes... but-"

"Yes I know, you are worried. I'll be fine!" She stood up and flicked his forehead as they made their way over to the match table. He grumbled and rubbed his forehead.

"I wish you would stop doing that..." He said lowly, brows knitted together in frustration. She just smiled and stuck her tongue out at him as they sat down next to each other. 

"Hey y/n!" Martha greeted, "ready for your first match?" She cheered. y/n smiled back and nodded her head enthusiastically. 

"I heard there is a new hunter today!" Naib piped up from beside Jose, leaning over the table to see the others better. Jose raised an eyebrow.

"You know, y/n, maybe this isn't the best first match for yo-" He began before Martha cut him off, slinging an arm over y/n's shoulders. 

"Pish Posh!" She exclaimed. "y/n will be fine! She got us watchin' her back if she needs us!" Jose furrowed his eyebrows once more. 

"You know you'll get wrinkles if you keep doing that." y/n piped up, teasing the sailor, booping his nose. as he flinched and rolled his eyes. He grabbed her hand softly in his larger gloved ones. 

"Just, promise me you'll be careful, alright?" He pleaded with his childhood friend. Her gaze softened.

"Promise." She smiled. Martha and Naib shared a glance of 'why are they not together yet' before turning back to facing front. 

The room turned black.

Jose opened his eyes back to the place he had first arrived with y/n; Lakeside Village. Spotting a cipher, he began to decode, ignoring the urges to first find y/n and make sure she was safe.

'calm down,' he reassured himself, 'she is an adult with many skills, she will be fine... besides, no one dies in this game.' he let out a breath and continued working on the cipher at hand. 

He felt his heart rate pick up and ceased typing, crouching down in the nearby grass and pulling out his pocket watch attached to a gold chain, clutching it tightly. He watched as the hunter came around the corner, not facing him yet. 

His breath hitched as he instantly recognized her. 

It was Queen Mary.

The queen his family sworn to protect.

What was she doing here?! 

He watched as she slowly turned to face where he was. When her pitch-black eyes meet his, her face contorted from confused and surprised to rage. 

"YOU!" She yelled in pure anger, raising her weapon and pointing at him before storming over. Jose quickly got up, running back. "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT ME!" She screamed with hatred as she broke the rules and began to run. Well, as well as you could run in heels and if you are a dead monarch. Jose's eyes widened and he tried to run faster. Mary pulled up a mirror and sliced at him, knicking his shoulder which began to bleed.

"You weren't there when they stormed the palace!" She yelled, following him into the shipwreck. He slammed a pallet down.

"They KILLED ME!" She screamed as she splintered the pallet before continuing her chase. She struck him once more, sending him flying into the side of the ship, incapacitated. Mary approached him, raising her weapon once more in rage and brought it down.

Jose closed his eyes tight in anticipation of the glaring pain to come.

But it didn't.

He opened them to see y/n stood in front of him, sword drawn, holding Mary's weapon back. Mary's eyes widened in shock. 

"I remember you..." she muttered and her gaze turned cold. "You made him leave, didn't you!" She yelled at her, pressing harder with the shard of glass. y/n pushed back and shoved her back. 

"No, he left to find your ship and his dad!" y/n exclaimed, standing tall in front of Jose, sword held at the ready. Mary looked slightly surprised.

"What?" She asked.

"He left to help you!" 

"It got me killed!!" She yelled back, raising her weapon once more. With a well-placed swipe y/n had disarmed her of her weapon as it went flying into the water below. Mary looked slightly frightened, but y/n made no move to harm her. Jose had finished healing himself as he stood up and placed a hand on y/n's shoulder, holding his side slightly. 

"I'm sorry, I did what I believed was best," Jose explained as he did his best to shakily bow on one knee. y/n looked down at him, a bit incredulous he would bow to her but kept her focus mainly on Mary to make sure she wouldn't try anything again. 

Mary crossed her arms and held her up chin in a prissy monarch manner. "What can you do to make it up?" She questioned haughtily. Jose stood back up, thinking.

"Whatever you require." He answered back. Mary thought for a moment.

"Alright, be my bodyguard again." She said. Jose was slightly confused about how that would work in the manor but agreed none the less.

y/n sat down with Mary for their bi-weekly tea party. The two had grown close with Jose staying by both female's sides. 

"So when is Jose going to ask you out?" Mary asked as y/n took a sip of tea. y/n nearly spit out her mouthful but ended up swallowing it and choking slightly as she coughed a bit and hit her chest to get it down. 

"W-what?!" She asked, looking back up at the monarch in confusion and embarrassment. 

"Oh, honey, it's obvious you two love each other." She said as she daintily sipped at her tea. y/n flushed a bright crimson as she grabbed a cookie. 

"I mean... I-I d-don't k-know..." She stuttered as she popped the sugary cookie into her mouth. 

"I'll order him to." Mary said seriously and y/n sweatdropped. 

"Oh please don't, it won't be real..." y/n said, waving her hand nervously. 

"Well, I will make sure he does one way or another."
