Mother of Invention (Your POV)

While walking down the halls of the ship, I come across Utah standing next to a window humming to himself, idly talking about Georgia. I stand next to him and look out the window, seeing a green shape slowly floating towards me. "Hey, Utah. You doing ok?" The white armoured agent nods at me while bending down and grabbing a coin off the floor. "Oh, hey look. It's Georgia's lucky penny. Too bad he didn't have that with him... when it happened." Something slams against the window behind me and I turn to see none other than Georgia spread out across the window. Without missing a beat, Utah turns to the window and begins having a conversation with him as if nothing is out of the ordinary. As the floating agent slides off the window, Utah and I look at each other before he realises what just happened. "You should probably go try and grab him into an airlock. See you around, Utah." He sprints off down a hallway as I open the door to a locker room to see Wash, North and York all standing there, the older of the Dakota siblings with his back to me. "Yo, you guys will not believe what just-" I stop in my tracks as I realise York and Wash are staring directly at North's crotch for a solid ten seconds in complete silence before Wash speaks up. "I expected it to be... bigger." York instantly chimes in. "Why? You've seen mine. It's small too." Without wanting to even get involved, I turn around and leave the room without saying another word.

A couple of hours later and I'm practically asleep in my corner of the classroom before the yelling of my name snaps me back to reality. "Huh? What's up?" The Director paces his way up to me with his hands behind his back and stops next to my desk. "Well, California. What's 'up' is that you seem to never listen to anything about AI theory at all. Granted, your AI is different from the rest but that isn't an excuse to not pay attention. Am I clear?" I sigh and nod in response as he leaves my desk and resumes with the lesson, no sooner does he leave am I asleep again. By the time I once again pay attention, we're finishing up as Sigma asks about metastability and voices his interest on the topic. Once he finishes, everyone but Maine and his new AI leaves, prompting me to move over to them. "Hey, Maine. Hey, Sigma. What's with the sudden curiosity with the meta stuff?" The flaming figure turns to me and floats over towards my face. "Hello, Agent California. I just wish to know more about the stages of rampancy. Fascinating, aren't they?" I give a nervous chuckle and leave the room, bringing up my own AI as the door closes. "I need you two to start running metastability combinations which include Sigma. Should something happen, I want a headstart against that creepy little asshole. And any files you two have so far on the AI program for this project send them to my PC, I want to do some reading." The two nod at me before returning to sleep so as not to disturb me and my thoughts.

After a few more hours with Carolina, the two of us bid each other farewell with a quick kiss at my door. The aqua agent hums to herself as she walks down the corridor, causing me to smile a bit. I open my door and immediately sit down at in front of my computer and search through the AI files I have so far, coming across a file titled 'Beta'. "The hell? There isn't any AI called Beta. That I know of, anyway." Opening the file reveals pictures of a blonde woman called Alison Church and what the Beta AI is, and who Beta is. I stare at the screen as I put the pieces together, Texas isn't human, just like I guessed. After reading some more, it becomes clear that Tex has no clue whatsoever who or what she really is, what makes it even sadder is the fact that Carolina's worst enemy and rival is her very own mother. Closing the file, I decide the best thing is to not mention it to either of them. I place my helmet on my desk as I collapse onto my bed and drift to sleep.

The Next Day (Your POV)

Chris snapping his fingers brings me back to reality as my pilot swivels in his seat slightly to face me. "We're just above the drop zone. Team one has already dropped and is taking out most of the forces, your mission is just to search and destroy a data farm. Sound simple?" I nod at him as the door opens, making me jump out my chair, sprint through the ship and jump out of it. After breaking through the clouds, all I can see if a flurry of gunfire and a fight between Carolina and Maine against two Insurrectionists. I land in the water and pull myself up, just as the soldier who seems to be missing his robot arm goes flying over me and landing into the sea. Not even a minute passes before I heard a thud behind me and turn to see a blonde flash vanish into the sea. Without a second thought, I dive in and grab the woman and drag her up onto the surface as she begins coughing up water while on her hands and knees. After her coughing fit is over, she looks up at me while I place a hand on her back. "Stay here, I'll be back. They think you're dead and we're going to keep it that way. Once my mission is done, I'll have my pilot come get us. Or, if something happens to me I'll send him for you and then you go to Reach. The designation is Seven Five Niner." Girlie nods at me as she slumps against a wooden board and falls into unconsciousness, seemingly peaceful.
