Hawkins. The town that was once where I lived. Where I met all of my friends and where I grew up. Well, it's gone.

My name is Mike — short for Michael — Wheeler. My friends and I grew up in Hawkins; we've lived here all our lives.

Recently, news came out that Hawkins Lab was creating monsters and trying to "enter the new world", or whatever. Most people didn't believe it, until it turned out to be true.

The experiment spiraled out of control, and the monsters started taking over the town. And eventually, the whole state of Indiana. Then the whole country.

At least that's what I've heard. News stations don't really exist anymore. Almost everything is contaminated, so it's hard to get supplies. We're constantly on the move.

I don't even know where we are anymore. I don't know where my parents and litter sister are, let alone if they're alive.

The team that I'm traveling with consists of some of my best friends. Will Byers, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, and Lucas Sinclair.

Along with them, we have the teenagers. Steve "The Hair" Harrington, my sister Nancy, and Will's brother Jonathan.

Only two adults are with us. Chief of Hawkins police Jim Hopper, and Will's mom, Joyce.

At this point, I'm not too worried about my family. No one really is anymore, they're either dead or with their own team. We've all accepted that we probably won't ever see them again.

We haven't run into anyone else on our journey, which is concerning. We've been on this hellish trip for almost six months. At least I think, I've kind of lost count.

Every night, we raid abandoned grocery stores and then set up camp inside. Occasionally we have to fight off the monsters, but we've gotten pretty good at it. We have several guns and loads of bullets, so we're pretty protected.

The world kind of fell apart. The skies are stained with a disgusting red color, and every once in a while lightning lights up the red and black clouds, revealing a huge monster with six or seven arms. Almost like a dome around the world.

I felt alone. Sure, I had my team with me, but I hadn't met anyone in a while. Morale in the group was starting to drop; everyone has been pretty depressed for a while.

Well, until I met them. They called themselves the "Killjoys". Pretty badass name. I wish we had a cool name like they did.
