Emily Scott POV
I ran into the room where Emerson and Robyn were sleeping. I was so happy! Running into Emmie's room, I leaped up onto the bed and nuzzled on top of Emmie and Robyn. Emmie groaned in annoyance, but I didn't care. "Snow day, snow day! We have no school, yay!" I was bouncing over them and Emmie swatted a hand at me which I skillfully dodged.
I giggled while nudging Robyn. "Birdie, it's a snow day! Let's build a snowman!"
Birdie yawned and sat up, stretching and grossly popping his back. Ew. "Good morning, Emily. Isn't it a little too early?" he asked, squinting toward the dark window.
I rolled my eyes. "You should know the daylight hours are shorter in the winter. It's not that early."
Birdie ruffled my hair. "You smart cookie. Although, it doesn't matter how late in the day you wake Em up, he'll always be sleepy."
"You know what they say, the early bird catches the worm," I said. "We should build snowmen before it melts later today. And skate on the road before the salt trucks come through!"
"Well somebody has a lot of plans for a day you're supposed to catch up on sleep," Emmie finally said.
I lightly pushed him on the shoulder. "You get way too much sleep, especially for a high schooler. Liven up a bit."
Robyn snorted."Yeah, Em, liven up a bit. A fourth grader is telling you that."
Emmie surrendered. "Okay, okay, I wave my white flag. We can go outside, but you absolutely have to bundle up. There's no way you are missing more school than you have to. Don't want Mom to be mad, do we?"
I blew a raspberry and sighed. "Fine. Mom is gonna coddle me no matter what."
"Now go on and put your thermals, your pants, your shirt, your sweater, and your winter jacket. Don't forget to wear two pairs of socks, your mittens, hat, and scarf. Wear your winter boots, not your normal boots--"
"Okay, okay, please stop talking for Pete's sakes." I had to interrupt Emmie or else he would drone on for hours on end. "Mom is literally going to tell me the exact same thing."
Emerson laughed. "I know, it's protocol after all these years. I've memorized it by now. Did you get Mom's permission?"
"Duh, I asked her when I first woke up. She's downstairs having breakfast."
That got Emmie to hop out of bed. "Speaking of breakfast, let's eat."
Robyn pulled the blankets up higher. "Eh, give me a few minutes."
I huffed. "I'm not going to wait! You better hurry up or I'll throw a snowball while you lay in bed." Birdie just laughed and rested his back against the headboard with his hands over his head.
Emerson rolled his eyes and leaned over to Robyn to kiss him on the forehead. He straddled him and put his arms around his neck. "Let's go, Robyn. I bet I can make a better snowman than you."
Smiling, Robyn pecked Em on the corner of his mouth. "There are children present," he said as he winked at me. I wriggled my eyebrows back and crossed my arms. I predicted they would end up together since, like, forever ago. I was the first one to call it. But Mom seems to think differently.
